What are those marks above and below the horizontal pole? Dust marks? I also see one further up from the ones at the pole. Clean your camera! ;)

Looking at the sky were the shots taken at quite a high iso rating? Perhaps try to lower it and go for a longer exposure. Also when you do the HDR do you have an option to reduce noise? Unless of course thats the look you're going for? My eye is drawn towards the bright red of the boat as well, which i dont think is a good thing. Possibly not the best image to use for HDR but so long as youre learning the technique and are happy with your progress thats the main thing though. Hmmm might have to pop down to a church or two to try my hand at HDR again :D
 
Cheers derek! I thought they might have been seaguls on the slower shutter speed but I will clean it anway! Well must have mucked up in processing as I was on iso 200 lol I know the noise handling is crap on a D200 but it's not that bad lol
 
In my opinion shadowness image is much nicer. The HDR is much to strong on customs image and makes it look drawn, not a fan im afraid.

I completely agree; the HDR is awful, looks like a cartoon! I much prefer people to develop their own processing style rather than just use a plugin to do it all for them. Shadowness' image is considerably better and far from bland in any comparison. :)
