I've shot at 2 hindu weddings so far this year, as a guest and for my personal and relatives' collection, and it is so hard to shoot them, even though I've not shot traditional Western weddings. It's because things tend to take place at night, in marquees, or inside homes even, with natural light a rarity. However, what makes up for it is the sheer amount of vibrant colours and textures. A lot more excitingespecially when there is a bringing together or 2 different cultures. I look forward to shooting more though.
Anecdote on the subject, if you'll bear with my ramble:
One of those weddings was weekend before, which lasted over 4 days, of which I skipped one to make the London meet. 4 days as my British Hindu cousin was getting married to a Turkish Muslim girl so each family wanted to hold their respective side's traditions.
Anyway, by far, the most beautiful girl there happened to be the photographer and the only one I had eyes for, despite my parents' attempt to introduce me to friends' daughters, etc. Tall, slim, eastern european looking, similar age to me, absolutely stunning. I had previously seen her at another wedding within that family circle a few months ago (they stick to her and her parents who run a wedding photo/video business). I told my myself I'd find the courage to go chat to her about taking photos, her kit, processing, whether it was her full time job, etc. I did so when I saw her on a break, and it was very pleasant for me at least. She agreed with me that non-english weddings were a lot more exciting and colourful. Despite thinking she was/is out of my league, I asked for her name and card.
Got home later that night, and googled her site. As it turns out, she lied to me, which I can forgive her for. As it happens, she is also a fashion and glamour model!!! Perfect woman on the surface or what!? Even more out my league, unless I get some bigger ba??s and another opportunity to see/meet her presents itself!
