Good stuff mate, they look great. Would love to do an Indian wedding :) - I'm doing a chinese one next year hopefully, they are supposed to be great as well.

It's not Indian but traditional Bengali hehe :p Indian weddings have live music and loads of dancing and throwing of colours! Ours are more laid back but still very colourful and fun is had :D

Lighting wise for the above shot I used the 430EX bounced with the 17-85mm lens It's not a lens that anyone would consider using for a wedding but the lens is very sharp at 30mm+ as long as you nail the focus. I used the 50mm 1.8 for the other shots.

Sometimes I use the studio lights in each corner of the hall but only on non main wedding days (traditional weddings span over 4 days spread apart) because of the amount of kids running around and the amount of videographers (everyone seems to have a friend who does it so you end up with quite a few people waltzing around with mini floodlights and pro camcorders!) getting in the way casting harsh shadows and so on so I just get in there and bash a few bounced/diffused shots out and let them get on with it

As for the headshot, when you look at any of the brides up close there's loads of details gone into the makeup, just make sure your lighting brings those out but these can always be corrected later in Lightroom/PS these days too. I like to shoot with a slightly slower shutter speed. Most of my shots the past few weeks have been 1/50 and 1/60sec using the 430 in EV +1/3 and +2/3, this way I found I could expose for ambience @ ISO400-800 and let the flashgun light the subject.

To add a little more punch I up the vibrancy in Lightroom then use the preset Vignette 2 setting so it darkens the corners ever so slightly and just brings out your subject that little bit more.

Hope that helps!

My (male) cousin recently married into a family from bangladesh so I was at a Bengali wedding in oct (part of it anyway, still a bit of a mystery which part :D) - looked very similar.
Was like being in a bollywood movie compared to British weddings though ;)

I like British Weddings too heh, I like them more sometimes due to everything being organised and minimalistic because these ones do get pretty mad with hundreds of people attending :O

Yup, when it comes to work I hate Indian weddings. Western weddings are so much easier and straightforward, and there's a whole lot less work involved. Since doing our first Indian wedding during the summer we have vowed never to do one again, or charge a hefty premium :p.

Copied across from the fireworks thread.

One of my sisters uni housemates took these with his 450D and kit lens whilst I went out there with my blowtorch. Final one is an epic photo!

Number 1 is nice, real nice" Kind of thing I usually see being sold on canvas prints in various Home Decor stores!

In a good way of course! :p Just how high up was number 3 btw? I keep thinking of the Nokia N8 video advert too when I see it heh!

Hehe :p.

Was on a small plinth on the stairs up to the Sacre Couer, he's only about 1.5 foot off of the ground although tried to crop it to make it a little bit dramatic. Ah dam now I'm going to be thinking of that every time now hehe!

I've shot at 2 hindu weddings so far this year, as a guest and for my personal and relatives' collection, and it is so hard to shoot them, even though I've not shot traditional Western weddings. It's because things tend to take place at night, in marquees, or inside homes even, with natural light a rarity. However, what makes up for it is the sheer amount of vibrant colours and textures. A lot more excitingespecially when there is a bringing together or 2 different cultures. I look forward to shooting more though.

Anecdote on the subject, if you'll bear with my ramble:

One of those weddings was weekend before, which lasted over 4 days, of which I skipped one to make the London meet. 4 days as my British Hindu cousin was getting married to a Turkish Muslim girl so each family wanted to hold their respective side's traditions.

Anyway, by far, the most beautiful girl there happened to be the photographer and the only one I had eyes for, despite my parents' attempt to introduce me to friends' daughters, etc. Tall, slim, eastern european looking, similar age to me, absolutely stunning. I had previously seen her at another wedding within that family circle a few months ago (they stick to her and her parents who run a wedding photo/video business). I told my myself I'd find the courage to go chat to her about taking photos, her kit, processing, whether it was her full time job, etc. I did so when I saw her on a break, and it was very pleasant for me at least. She agreed with me that non-english weddings were a lot more exciting and colourful. Despite thinking she was/is out of my league, I asked for her name and card.

Got home later that night, and googled her site. As it turns out, she lied to me, which I can forgive her for. As it happens, she is also a fashion and glamour model!!! Perfect woman on the surface or what!? Even more out my league, unless I get some bigger ba??s and another opportunity to see/meet her presents itself! :(

Sounds like DB reckons he may be out of her league because as it turns out, she's also a fashion/glamour model?

If she's got a website then link us up tbh :p

And TBH, it sounded like you both got along so where's the halal beef? (:p)
