Jimmy1982: I've never shot karting, it looks like fun :) Panning can be a bit hit and miss, it's all practice practice practice. Try and get in closer, get shots from more of a front angle perhaps so you see the drivers face, mess around with slower shutter speeds.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I thought about cropping but I like to keep it to standard ratios. I used to do the artistic crop when I first started but I think I like it when everything is the same.
 
I like it too but personally I'd have wanted to add a little more detail that's lost in the highlights! Out of habit these days I shoot 3-5 shots of the same scene and if I see there's too much lost detail in shadows or highlights then I'll layer up in PS and use a soft eraser brush to bring details back and adjust the curves accordingly.

A sort of manual HDR, but not HDR, if that makes sense :p
