If you're like me, you'll take a shot and be really happy with it then after you process it, decide you don't like it and stick it in the "meh" folder for all time :D

Thank you for taking the time to write that out and help me - I'm currently using Light room to process my pictures and will try and follow your advice re "overlay"

It's a learning curve :D

No worries, let me know how you get on. I use aperture on my mac for most of my editing, but its situations like that when you are starting to get limited by 1 single program as you need to look at multiple exposures of that contrast inversion technique I posted earlier. The later doesn't cost anything though! :D
 
Day 10 (I've been going on with this, I just haven't been posting them here after getting back to school with A levels around the corner and freaking out about uni offers: Oxford letter arrived at home today)

EDIT: I've noticed that this sort of processing works a lot better in print and on neutral backgrounds than on OcUK, which is a bit annoying but such is life. I'll swap back to Black OcUK I guess
