First time getting the chance to play around with my new camera - constructive criticism is always appreciated guys:

Two things I've noticed:

  1. Squirrels are notoriously hard to photograph. :o
  2. We've got some beautiful scenery literally right on our doorstep. :)

Ahoy!

Did you apply any processing to them? You're right the scenery is beautiful! Definitely return there at different times of the day and observe the light from dusk until dawn. you'll see what I mean when you do and you'll be back more often during the most "moody minutes" - Ambient light is everything :D

Your pics can be given that extra punch with some processing in Lightroom etc though. The Squirrel is out of focus of course but as you have seen, they're not easy to grab still :p

All the more reason to return!

Hi there

Thanks for the advice there MRK - I've touched them up a little using Lightroom but didn't want too go over board. The squirrel picture was taken using full (X26) zoom and I've since learned that raising the ISO might have helped. It's a learning curve though :D

You're also quite right about the lighting - the summer nights up there can give some spectacular sunsets and I'm looking forward to getting more practice in. :)

I can imagine a misty morning before sunrise, the light rays burst through those church wall ruins...

Day 3 - Cheeky little Brenizer while I was waiting for my date, only just got around to processing it after getting home. Not overly blatant but I've found the more blatant I try to go (e.g. recreating a 24mm f/0.5 focusing 1m away etc.) the harder photoshop finds it to put stuff together - out of focus blur seems to confuse the algorithms as there's not much sharp stuff for it to grab onto.

@Schizo absolutely love that one, mate, processing is spot on and really complements the purple (?) in her hair

Shame about the fence inbetween me and the subject, but at least that way I got out alive! :p

Went to Richmond park today for the first time. By the time I got there the light was all but gone but I decided to stick around.

I managed to pull back these two in PP.

I had no choice but use max ISO or near max ISO. Testament to the 5D3 and lens (70-300L IS) pushing it to the limits (and it shows!) - Max ISO and taken HANDHELD at 1/50sec and 1/25sec! Incredible IS! :)

Going to go back once this terrible weather improves. Now that I know it takes nearly 2 hours to get there I'll plan my trip next time against the sunset time. :p

Went for a walk along Tynemouth beech yesterday, grabbed a couple of nice shots, this being the best of the bunch.

Taken with the nifty fifty. Didn't realise I had the aperture at f2.2, wished i'd shot it higher to make the shot a little sharper tbh.
