Great forest shot but man the quality of your 10-20 is really really bad, have you tryed to return it? The image is sharp bottom right and mid left and thats it!

After some shots with my 10-20 i was starting to think i'd got a bad un but some shots in better light have told me otherwise.

I just took this, do you mind having a look and telling me if it looks overly soft? It certainly looks better than the forest picture (not sure what went wrong there!)

Excuse the noise as my 400D isn't great on 800+ ISO

Thanks

EDIT: I have emailed Sigma regardless and asked about repair/calibration of the lens.

It does look sharper in the centre than the forrest pic what Aperture you shooting at?

Just been trying to figure the best was to sort this out with something we both have lying around and have come up with the computer keyboard, if i take a few shots at 20mm / 17mm and 10mm at around F8 / F11 and post the unprocessed results you can then take a picture of yours and see how it looks for keyboard letter sharpness vs mine, its the only thing i can think of taking a photo of that had sharp image detail (letters) which are the same all the way across that isn't a test card etc.

Give us a few mins and i'll upload the pics!

boom !!! a touch of ps ... .. .ScarySquirrel looks soft but have no experiance with such lens

(note the 20mm images are at both F5.6 and F8, you really need a tripod to mount your camera still on to get a good shot.

Hopefully the links should work not got my own webspace atm so n FTP never used this file host before but it seems ok.

Thanks for this. I'll have a play when I get home from work and post the results to compare :)

A newspaper is usually a good test due to all the text and images :)

I prefer yours, no blown out areas, more moody and more interesting composition...my horse is sacred though :p

Mine's also with a Sigma 10-20mm I should add...[/QUOTE]

Mine is a little soft though, I would have liked it to have been sharper. I like yours, he looks funny :)

I love horse faces with wide angle lenses :p

No problem, if you want me to take a shot of a newspaper page i'd be more than happy to.

No it's ok for now, I think the keyboard images are a good indication that mine is a bit soft (that might sound a bit dodgy if no one knows what we were talking about :p)

I just had a quick look at the 10mm image at it appears much sharper than my images.

Put camera on tripod, on a big heavy strong tripod.

Use mirror lockup

Use remote cord or timer

Shoot at at several apertures at several distances to focal lengths.

Shoot something with a uniform discernible pattern.

Shoot at ISO 100/200

Shoot in RAW

which phone? nice enough subject matter / angle but the image is a bit blurred and obviously the image isn't as strong as it could be if taken with a DSLR :)

LG viewty, was on the lowest settings, didnt realise till i got home :/ need to get a dslr once ive saved a bit ;)
