Street shots

Tbh, my advice would be to sell your d5000 and get a d90. Exactly what i did - didn't cost much and was very very much worth it. Then you can use all those lovely cheap af-d lenses and still get auto focus.

Whilst I agree that having af is helpful for candid street shots, mf is easy enough too. Just pre-set the basic focus distance you're shooting at and then only tiny adjustments should be needed to hit focus. As with anything practice makes perfect.

do it, the d90 is a really great camera and a significant jump in terms of usability and quality from the 'baby nikons' such as the 3xxx and 5000.

Although depending on your budget perhaps consider a d7000?

i upgraded from a 5000 to a d90 about 10 months ago and it's really improved my photography and made it more fun. To be honest though, i kind of wish i'd have spent a couple of hundred more and got a d7000 for better low light quality and enhanced auto focus etc. Ah well...

now eagerly awaiting news of the new nikon bodies as i'll almost definitely be upgrading to the d800 when it's released :D
 
I'm not really interested in full frame as the majority of my photography is using telephoto, which means I can get a longer focal range for cheaper ;) However I have been thinking of getting the D7100 when/if it's released. My idea is to sell the D3100 while it's still selling for near what I paid for it, buy the D90 now and sell it in the future (it probably won't lose much value now as it's getting on a bit) and buy the D7100 without losing too much money.

Got my eye on a few second hand D90s now as we speak!
 
I like the first one and the third one.
The third one would have been so much more awesome if his beard wasn't cut off.
The second one would have been better if she was naked or something :)
