The process of finally moving out. How is it done?

So I'll be 22 at the end of the year and I believe it's high time I moved out. However, I have no idea where to begin.

My situation right now is that I'm going to be in college, yes college, for another two years. I did a cluster of social science courses last year and decided it wasn't the route I wanted to go down. So now I'm going back to do sciences.

I currently only have a part-time job and no real savings. My mother is getting pretty fed up and to be fair so am I. I need my own space. It doesn't need to be fancy, just something I can call my own I guess.

So I guess my question is: Is there any way of a student such as myself being able to get any funding etc for a small flat or anything?

Thanks in advance.

Colleges sometimes supply small grants or hardship funds for students. Depends entirely on your financial situation, age, blah blah.

Haven't heard of colleges giving money out for accommodation though.

Go in with some mates and rent a place - 4 lads I was (am) mates with did that, had some great times in that place through our 20's, seemed to set them up ok for when it was time to move in with their girlfriends and be grown up.....

Pity all of the new mates I made since moving up to Scotland are off to uni after summer ha!

Well, I get a bursary of £270 p/m going by my mothers income. But that's about it.

That's not bad. What £3200 odd?

I had a non means tested loan of around £1800, that ended up coming towards the end of the course (I had two part time jobs) and the bill for halls was payable at the end less a deposit iirc. Halls in 00/01 were about £800 - 900 for the year iirc. Things have moved on since then, but it should still be do-able.

After that I then rented a flat with my girlfriend that took up half of our first wage packets as a comparison!

No, not in the slightest by the looks of it. Just ignore him.

Yes I did, from one end to the other end.

He's going back to study?

He's also asking for help to become more self sufficient, that isn't a bad thing unless you've got an axe to grind.

He isn't going back he is staying in education.

I'm just going to guess that you didn't read my post.

Yes I did. I was making a point, you are living at home for a reason. You cannot afford to move out, if you want to move out get a better paying job (part-time or otherwise) or a 2nd job. Or go part-time education and full time employment.

Or, you know, get on with your Mum.
