The Pub and Drinks

If you were the only one in your party not buying drinks then it's a ****y manager and don't go back there TBH.

If none of you were buying drinks and it was a busy night then fair enough.

See my local know I don't drink very often and I tend to rotate drinks, I'll normally just drink Water, but will ocassionaly get a coke.

Never had a single problem with it.

Find a new pub.

Might have been in once, long time ago, can't really remember - we're normally on the other side where the quiet woman / whim ales / swan is. Pity though, Joules do some nice beers (if it's really a Joules pub).

7 people buying 6 drinks is like having 7 people sharing 6 portions of chips.

No it's not. Its like 6 people paying for drinks and 1 person having free, by law, water. You are right that it shouldnt matter though (unless its a bunch of idiots all drinking from one glass :p ).

Benny, the DM is a spanner, i'd contact the licensee and have a word about it as it's very bad customer service and as said its not supportive of the designated drivers choice of soft drink.

I think it is completely uncalled for and echo the sentiments of Telescopi, surely they should be promoting this "designated driver" standpoint rather than turning it away. I'd just find a new pub were your welcome whatever you do/don't purchase.

Its there loss in reality as they have lost 6 paying customers.

The Quiet Woman is alright. I think I'm going tomorrow night for a few considering me and a few mates have the Friday off. They normally have a band playing on Thursdays. I've only ever been in The Swan once but I've been in the Black Swan quite a few times.

Shoulda just said "I am buying something, I bought this round".

That way, as far as he is concerned, if you had bought something you are technically still a paying customer. How is he supposed to know whether you paid for the round or not?

Yep, manager is a tool, would definitely find a better place to drink.

As already said, a bit mad they did that with the viewpoint of drink driving

I'd have replied "Designated driver, mate. Or if you'd rather me and the other 3 guys who are actually drinking can go spend money somewhere else."

If that "caught out" switch then flipped, and he stumbled out an apology I'd have accepted it, then said "... actually, you know what, we will go somewhere else. Well done."

lol crazy if you were in a party of ten some nightclubs would give you a free bottle of champagne! surely a party of 4 with only 1 not buying anything is still profitable....

Personally I think you should have bought a coke or an orange juice at least, but meh.

aye at least one , just for using their service as a place where you can meet

but bit harsh of them especially if it was quiet in there though , i know youd never get that problem round here.

Wednesday night? I presume it wasn't too busy? They should be thankful for any custom, not chucking groups out. I would imagine this isn't about the water and more about the frequency of drinks being bought by your mates. Still daft, though, must've been the time of the month!

If I was the manager of a pub and it was more or less empty I'd rather have 3 paying customers and one none paying than no customers at all, manager is an idiot imo

You could have bought a soft drink or two or a packet of peanuts/crisps, but the manager was still completely out of order. Telling you to "jog on" is pure cheek. And he was shooting himself in the foot by sending away three paying customers just to be rid of one non paying customer.
