The Radeon RX 6900/6950 XT Owners Thread.

Had a moment of madness and ordered the MSI card but after reading more reports about the thermal issues I'm just going to setup a return and not even open the box. Shame as it seemed decent value given the current market.

I changed my mind soon after I placed the order on Sunday evening but it was too late as the order had already been picked in the warehouse. But the return is easy with that seller, my return arrived before noon, and RMA was completed before 2 pm.

You should at least give it a try to be honest.

That place is great with returns, even if you open it and use it as long as you don't damage it and return it in the same condition as to which it arrived, you'll get a full refund minus the £5 postage. :)

They refunded the full amount, and I paid for the return shipping. :(:(:(:(

I'm afraid it's going back, tested it and you can quickly see the cooler is not up to it. Playing the Witcher 3 for only a brief period maybe 20-30mins and the hotspot reached 100C. Games didn't feel smooth either, quite a bit of stutter with long load times. This could be related to the changing cards and a reformat might help.

So how many ‘ex display’ ones have they got just from this forum?
Well when I called them yesterday, I explained I wanted to return it as it ran too hot and the guy appears to have raised it as an RMA as they are collecting it rather than me paying postage. He said they don’t even check the cards before sending them back so not sure if mine is being sold as “ex-display” or returned to MSI!

It’s a shame as it’s a nice card, if only they had put a cold plate on it.

Received my Red Devil 6900 XT today, it’s a chunky card! Was worried it was too thick for my Meshlicious case but it fits like a glove.

Fitted my PowerColor 6900 XT Red Dragon last night. My hands will be glad of the rest from trying to squeeze things into my case! Temps seem better. I mean cards are always going to run a bit hotter in a SFF case but the max the hotspot got up to last night playing BF2042 for a few hours was 90c. It was usually around low to mid 80c on the hotspot. With the GPU at around high 60s or 71/72c.

What did the other ex MSI Gaming Trio Z owners replace their cards with?

Gentlemen. I missed the Toxic EE, really did.

As much as I like my tuned MBA 6800 XT, it really is a fair bit slower than a tuned Toxic.

I hereby present, Toxic EE 2.0. Apparently 100Mhz faster core clock than the previous one too for good measure.

2800Mhz+ in games, stable. FCLK also stable at 2200Mhz using MorePowerTool. Crazy!

6900 XT Toxic Tuned using MPT (overlay is wrong forgot to update it to 6900 XT)
2750-2850Mhz/2112Mhz
FCLK 2200Mhz

Vs
6800 XT MBA Tuned using MPT
2275-2375Mhz
FCLK 2000Mhz

Yes, that's a 26.4% difference in performance.

Nice, you using a Toxic Extreme right? How did you 360 rad hold up with that voltage?

Edit, might be mistaking you for someone else sorry.

Also managed to crack the 3GHZ limit on non 3dmark loads

4K optimized, gave me first place for a while over on LUXX. 3rd as of right now

You actually removed the paste for liquid metal? The last time I used LM was on a 7700k lol Did you install a water block?

Yeah, i ran Noctua NT-H1 but there temps maxed instantly with thermal paste.

Slapped some clear nail polish on the components around the core, and applied it as usual. Made a world of difference.

Its watercooled with a alphacool Block. No way air cooled would have managed 550w+ load.

Exactly I was reading the wattage you are pumping to it and I was like "no way LM alone can be handling this much load" but I just wanted to confirm.
