The Radeon RX 7900 XT(X) Owners Thread.

If you haven’t had it give them a ring.

I didn’t get one even though ordered early in the day, guy on the phone said they’ve had a few issues with orders not being auto sent to warehouse for packing.

Rang up and within an hour it was despatched.

Could be nonsense but thought I’d mention it.
Thanks for this. I just phoned up and they said it should dispatch today. Literally 10 minutes after phoning I had the dispatch email. :)

I'm really not too impressed with the Merc. They were one of, if not the best air cooled 6800/6900 series cards but this time the TUF and Nitro are levels above.
Me too, I returned mine after 1 day. The card is thinner and weight is much lighter than Aorus and Nitro. I was surprised when I picked up the box. Gigabyte one is a bit heavier than nitro.

Btw, have you got plan to get powercolor and gigabyte cards to complete your collection?:cry:

Nah, but I did try to bag an Aorus when you got yours but I was too slow. Was just curious to see what it was like. I think the Nitro is the best all round card to be honest. It's good that we know the Ntrio, Aorus and the Merc all have the highest power limits at 467W though. I wonder if any of the Asrock cards have the same limit, I imagine at least one of them must do.

what is the best method to check is your reference card has an issue. I used AMD metric overlay and seemed to be below 80 degrees but am only playing in 1440p I will setup my 4k later to check. Seems like I cannot unvolt it much, as it losses rendering in the games.

Can anyone advise what I should be doing to push the card, to double check. I am happy with it but dont want their to be issue later on down the line, would rather sort it out now

Has it hit 110c on the hot spot temp when gaming or doing anything you normally do on your computer?

run 3dmark , heaven etc ? or try different games some games aint as demanding though and look at the hotspot how high is it reaching ?

Run Heaven in a constant loop for 10 minutes in windowed mode with gpu-z running and sensors monitoring (click the Sensors tab). If you have a bad card, the following will happen, or something close:

-After a few minutes, junction (hot spot) temp will hit 110c or even a bit higher. At that point...
-Core speed will throttle back to between 2200-2400mhz (from around 2500mhz where they should be)
-Power usage will scale back from around 347w to low 300s
-Junction temp will scale back to around 90c or below
-The card may try to throttle back up to 2500mhz, but it will go back to 110c and the slower speeds shortly thereafter

What was it about the Merc that you didn’t like? Did it get too hot when overclocked due to the smaller cooler, or something else?

Well, don't know what to think. Got the 7900 XTX just know. I'm coming from a 6900xt, in a custom loop.
Ran timespy all stock with graphics score of 28858. Junction did not reach 110C, it was around 100C towards the second test so for me it's the same thing.
While using both screens at 144hz the vram is clocked all the way up to 2400mhz and it's constantly at 80C and the card power draw is around 120W. Setting the secondary screen to 60hz pushes the vram back to 100mhz, sitting around 60C (just reading, browsing), with the card drawing 45W, less bad.
The card in question is a asus, but I believe that's the referece design therefore reference PCB? Can anyone more knowledgeable confirm that to me?

pics of the card:

I could not test much right now but I believe I will be facing the 110c hotspot issue, which is not that bad issue because that's going under water anyway but makes me think it would be a problem when selling next year.

Mainly the fan noise and not a huge fan of the looks. The latter is just personal preference though. Also to make it silent you had to run the fans at very low RPMs and then temps got hot.
Yeah, I did think it looked like a guiro thanks to the back plate! Other than the fan noise and temps did it’s power limit allow it to perform in line with the Nitro?
