The Radeon RX9070XT / RX9070 Owners Thread

Hello, Anyone having any issues? I've had random black screen crashes, keyboard, mouse running with all RGB, pc running but the screen never comes back I have to do a full power down & restore, I've ran OCCT on each component, no crashes, no errors, I've ran multiple different GPU benchmarks and stress tests with no issues.. I play Escape from tarkov for hours with no issues then it black screens. It's sporadic, random hard to replicate. Happened 3 different times, on spotify, youtube, EFT. Frustrating the heck out of me. Brand new pc all new components but feel like I'm walking on egg shells with the worry of freezing in the back of my mind, in reliability monitor, event viewer i see stuff like Windows Hardware error "
LKD_0x1B8_AMD_Blackscreen_Blackbox_dxgkrnl!DxgCreateLiveDumpWithDriverBlob" "LKD_0x1A8_KEYBD_HOTKEY_GraphicsDriver_AMD_DriverNoModeSet_dxgkrnl!DISPLAYSTATECHECKER::CreateBlackScreenLiveDump"
This quite clearly makes me think it's AMD when it says AMD literally in the name.. I'm like is it the card? Or the drivers? i get incredible perfomance, my temps are the best I've ever had in any pc, like 50c gpu & cpu in games, It's like diagnosing what gives you a headache there's 20 different things.. I'm just hoping it's a driver or some crap.. Doing my head in, happy to give other information if anyone cares, sorry to like dump this here but if anyone else has issues at least that would make me think it's drivers or just a unlucky card etc...

No issues at all with my card. Managed to undervolt further tonight to -140mv! game stable.

Disable MPO - google this and there should be a Regedit script made by Nvidia. See if that works for the black screens.

Presume you’ve done DDU before installing your AMD drivers?

Yes DDU thankfully, I'll look into MPO thank you, Wow didn't realise how easy and quick it would be to do, just added the registry from the nvidia link, restarted my pc, took 2 minutes. Hopefully that will help.. we shall see but thank you

Not to spam but another thing I find fascinating with my Steel legend 9070xt is that when I play games, even with good cooling, ventilation my Memory Temp/Vram Temp is 90c now that could be within the safe bounds sure but when you add in we aren't in the hot humid summer yet and after a year or 2, dust buildup and usage, could easily add anywhere 5c-20c depending on weather, makes me think that could be an issue. Or I could be clueless, who knows. Also Adrenalin fan tuning is tuning the memory temp which does my head in because it hits 90c and then my fan blasts at 100c thinking it's normal GPU Temp which it isn't lol

Dont look at it as cooling for the vram is inadequate but more like vram is tolerated to go to a specific memory temp for whatever technical reason. I'm pretty sure as the weather gets warmer the fanspeed will increase to offset the increase in vram temp, if need be, to maintain safe operating parameters.

Yes, that's what should happen since the default fan profile is set to maintanin specified temperatures. For testing, I changed the profile to increase the fan from 1900rpm to 2800rpm on my Nitro+ and the mem temp went from 93C to 86C. This is with Furmark running a stress test.

well after thinking we sorted my problem out last night its back with avengence
same fix f rom yesterday does nothing now the hdmi is basically completely unusable
also tried to play a game for the first time properly since getting hte new card and yeah it doesnt work at all lol black screen needed a few attempts to start to get it to actually show a picture at all even on display port
think my card is dead

Gutting. Have you got anyone you know with a PC you could try it in to confirm it's definitely the card?

Have you tried a clean install of windows?

It's a pain in the ass but this fixed it for me. I had black screen issues just like yours, used DDU many times but the issues went after I wiped everything and started again.

Shouldn't have to do this but it worked for me.

yeah im going to try the card in another pc in a bit and il try this pc with the old 3060 again just to check its not the pc
weird it worked briefly last night until i launched gta v and then it just went back well sort of back now its grey instead of green and purple
it also only works at all if i have both monitors turned on and plugged in [so one on hdmi and one on dp with the displays duplicated] if i turno ff hte duplication and go to a 2 screen desktop instant weird colours for a few seconds and pc turns off
no image on either screen until your logged into windows [which makes logging in great fun if you cant see the screen lol]
really odd
over a week and i havnt actually successfully played a single game yet lol
the options for screen modes we had last night is a much shorter list now and none of them work like last night
really weird this one lol

Nobody should be using Furmark to stress test anything-both AMD AND NV have advised do not use it in the past with terminology of 'its a power virus'.

Furmark should only be used in scenarios to confirm a failing/broken GPU!
Power virus? lol. It just stresses the GPU unrealistically, but will often find instability if it is there. It’s pretty much the Prime95 of GPU testing.

Of all the tests I use, I find Steel Nomad the most reliable for undervolts and overall testing. Albeit some games will take a much stronger undervolt. However, I’m yet to see a game crash on an undervolt that Steel Nomad is stable on. So, quite reliable.

Steel Nomad and Superposition is all you need

How many extra frames are you guys getting when overclocking?

Tempted to give it a go but not sure if I can be bothered if it's only another 5-10fps :D

Have noticed an increase of 18fps on average in BO6, but that’s pulling high frames to begin with. In most games, at 4K, it’s about a 10-15fps increase, but, I do have good silicon. Still, nothing to be sneezed at and is free performance.

Tuning your RAM subtimings and OC/UV your card together will yield some fairly substantial gains. Haven’t directly tested that myself, but my friend went from 6000CL30 and a stock 9070XT to 6400CL28 (managed to get it the same as mine with the same ram SKU) and a OC/UV 9070XT, and noticed quite substantial gains. Approaching 20fps increase or more in most games.

Some will say it isn’t worth it, but tuning your RAM and overclocking/undervolting your GPU can net some nice gains indeed. I don’t like leaving performance on the table and squeeze every drop possible.

My VRAM at 2810 Fast Timings sits around 88-90c too, and that’s with a NZXT H9 flow and 10 case fans. However, I do have the GPU fans sitting around 1700RPM at max load.

It could be an issue, yes, however, temps don’t often scale completely linearly with ambient temp. You think they would, but mostly don’t. My flat is at 22c year round. An increase in summer to 30c ambient should then result in 96-98c VRAM temps, but I’m willing to bet it will be more like 93-94c. Every degree of ambient temp doesn’t make it into the case.

Still, GDDR6 is safe to 105c, and seeing as I’m sitting at that temp of 88-90c at around 1700RPM, an increase to around 2000-2100 in summer should mitigate most of the difference.

If you’re having to run the fans full bore to keep it under 95c now, it could definitely be an issue in the summer. I’d then look at case cooling, or, memory pad replacement. But, these cards have naturally high memory temperatures despite having good memory pad application.
