Normally when I'm having a bad time in a game, I go to post on it's reddit/forum, the red mist lifts and I delete the post. Main reason is because I know I'm just going to get replies along the lines of being told I'm "salty", or that that I need to "Git Gud!"
99.9% of the time they would be absolutely correct.

But this thread isn't isn't about being logical, this is for ranting.

So share with me, what's annoying you the most in your current game?

War Thunder

I hate and love this game with a passion!
For reference, I only play Arcade Ground Battles.

The grind.
Oh sweet deity the grind! I'm only at BR 4.7, so there's a looooooong way to go to get a modern tank. It can take several nights to get 1 new tank and when you get that new tank, it doesn't have spare parts or a fire extinguisher! What army would save a few quid just to let their tank crews burn to death?
Some tanks start with such **** poor ammo that it's nearly impossible to get a kill.

The maps.
As I start to hit the higher tiers, the map design just seems lazy. One big open map with a few trees for cover, have fun! It becomes a race to get to the capture point 1st, then turns into straight up camping, because it becomes too dangerous to move.

The Planes.
Just like kill streak rewards in CoD (that's another rant).
"Oh you're doing well there, got a few kills? Here have a plane at no cost so you can get more!"
Sure you could pull an AA tank to fight them off, but then you're totally useless against tanks, and AA are not the ultimate counter-measure to planes, not by a long shot.
Bombers can fly so high, they're hard to hit, fighters can get lucky with a strafe run and knock out your entire crew, because all the AA tanks are squishy and have open tops (at my current BR).
If you kill the plane, you get some points, if they get you, you lose your tank/life.

Metro Exodus

After coming away from Red Dead Redemption 2, I have to ask. Who came up with these characters and dialogue?
No one is likeable, the whole romance between Artyom and Anna is nauseating, Miller is so damn clueless you wonder how he got the job in the 1st place. And I'm tired of everyone acting like Artyom is the messiah.
I don't care about any of them and I don't want to help any of them.

I love the gameplay, but the characters and the story put a real damper on things.

TBH I don't play many games these days due to so many games they can't get basic things right like character movement, clunky UI, etc. stuff that games decades ago nailed so no one much has an excuse in this day and age - probably due to too many making video games as a career and publisher mass producing games.

The last two I've spent any serious time in were The Division and Battlefield 4. The Division my main gripe and something that got me rage quitting sometimes is the lack of a fixing little annoying bugs like the grenade stagger and a dozen other little things that I could fix in an afternoon no hassle (not an idle boast) so it drives me up the wall. And don't get met started on the movement changes.

Battlefield 4 the half-arsed approach to a lot of the "glue" code and utility functions, etc. that held it all together, which is completely at odds with the graphics effort, would annoy me - so many things that they bodged until they mostly worked and then left them and some odd netcode issues I had with the game I never got to the bottom of.

Also with a lot of games now where they "fix" things with a heavy handed approach that forces silly things on the game to fix a problem that could be addressed with a bit more finesse and less collateral impact.

I played loads of War Thunder at the start of ground forces. They were pretty decent are giving you a double XP first win bonus of the day and extra XP on the weekend. Then they took away those XP bonus and just to annoy everyone a bit more made the amount of XP required for everything go up significantly.Ruined the game for me as I like to jump around vehicles a bit or I get bored.

Battlefield 3

That awful blue tint

Battlefield 4

Aircraft.
Infact this might apply to all of the Battlefield games. My memory isn't brilliant but I do remember getting bombed to hell and back in BF1942, even while sat in an AA gun.

I uninstalled Battlefield 4 about 2 weeks ago after a string of bad games, all of which involved planes and helicopters.
The last game was on Rogue Transmission and a player was in an attack jet, think it was a Frogfoot, he was absolutely decimating the game and completely untouchable.
In frustration I got out my stinger, but it was no use. He could attack run and ECM/Flare his way to safety. The only counter was to get into a stealth jet, but sadly my team lacked any capable or willing pilots. To make matters worse, the opposing teams stealth jet was on the ball. Every air battle was 2 vs 1, 3 when ever the attack chopper decided to join in.

I know it takes skill to be a decent pilot, but the lack of competent ground to air counters has annoyed me in pretty much every Battlefield.

What's getting me lately is buying a game on Steam with a release date fairly recent, e.g. 2016.
Only to get in the game and think it looks over 10 years old, then look it up on Wikipedia, and find it actually is over 10 years old.
Steam is basically lying to make you think games are newer than they are.

E.g. Titan Quest
Steam says: 2016
Actually Released: 2006

E.g. Grim Dawn
Steam says: 2016
Engine is the Titan Quest engine, from 2006.

I don't really understand this either, they don't even have to put the actual release date just put 'release date on Steam' instead.

Yeah BF 4 was the last decent one for me, as you could select servers on game style and HArdcore infantry only was where it was at for me. Vanilla EVERYTHING on could be a nightmare with good jet pilots in. Needed more than one person in different parts of the map with surface to air just to annoy them.

Not many AAA games now have the option of owning your own servers and tweaking the game and loadouts available. Now we are only left to remember when AAA games had this. All servers now are developer hosted. Thems were the days mate!

I didn't want to rant about this for no reason in case any fans get annoyed, but then again this topic is here for a reason, to vent:

FF15

I got this on MS gamepass and it was a massive download, I've enjoyed most FF games I've played though only played a few, 6, 7, 8 and 9, some of 12 and 13, and while they've had some questionable character designs, most games have some good ones with the more cartoony ones often having great ones, FF9 was great for that.

So I had my reservations about the FF15 characters looking like some K-Pop band I was still open minded.

Then I played it for a bit, my reservations were right, it turns out these characters were actually designed by a k-pop boy band designer. They are the worst characters with the worst mannerisms I've ever encountered, taking posed selfies within minutes of the game starting.

They're supposed to be in military gear yet they're variations of boy band outfits and all black at that, so unfitting and unimaginative. The worst, cringiest, most pathetic collection of characters I've ever seen, it looks like a couple of twinks with their Bfs on a road trip. Literally the worst character designs they could have possibly come up with for me.

I actually like the look of the rest of the game, truly hate all the main characters, so gave up on the game entirely.

Few things.
a) Grim Dawn actually came out in 2016, from some ex developers of Titan Quest on a heavily modified TQ engine. (it is heavily modified). It had actually an outside Steam funding project which supported.

b) Titan Quest indeed came out in 2006, but Anniversary Edition the one sold on Steam now came out summer 2016 by THQ Nordic to fund TQ Ragnarok. And consequently TQ Atlantis that came out two weeks ago :)
The initial Titan Quest & DLC weren't on Steam either, still having the DVDs from 14y ago :D

My rant is not about a game but rather the Steam refund system. I blame it for me missing out on games I probably would have liked if I'd put a bit of effort in but refunded because I didn't immediately take to them and, well, I'm cheap. Day of Infamy and Disco Elysium spring to mind.

I continue to regress toward a childlike attention span as I put on the years. Terrifying.

Mine would be Planetside 2. Recently got back into it. It's nice to see they are still supporting the game and expanding things like the building mechanic and adding other new features like the Bastions and near future plans for a 5 man tank. My issue with it, is zerging. You join a platoon of 48 people (Which is usually accompanied by another platoon from a different clan) who then just arrive and decimate the enemy force within a couple of minutes of arriving. Every now and then, you will be up against the enemy equivalent. Sometimes it can be fun, but most of the time it just feels like an absolute cluster **** of not know what is going on until one side finally overwhelms the other. The best games are usually either playing solo and deploying to bases that have activity (Usually smaller fights with randoms of about 6-12 people on each side), or joining smaller squads of say 12 people or so.

One other thing that does annoy me, is the stealth system in most games. It always just seems way off with AI always acting erratic or just being plain stupid. More recently playing Metro Exodus. The AI seem to switch between "I am potato" mode, to then switch over being the predator from Alien knowing exactly where you are at all times.

I dislike games that ask you to start multiple characters and ultimately fail on them before understanding what works, before then starting a character that may take you to the end of the game. A simple system to refund whatever the progression system is when you learn more about what does work without asking to repeat the start over and over is not difficult. I know that some games build upon this as a difficulty slide but it is quite a barrier for those who really want to play but do not want to watch a month of Sundays worth of YouTube tutorials to learn how to play first.

Age of Conan: beautiful scenery, great potential, epic ideas and seiges, but alas released too early with basically no content ☹️..ggg

Destiny and destiny 2: rubbish implementation of matchmaking, no support for solos infact the opposite, no group finder ingame, but beautifully made games and potential, PvP is really nice, but alas, op weapons, dumb metas and no one to play with....

Apex:hit reg issues much? Game got boring but I played it a lot. Just another BR tho unfortunate.

Valorant: repeating the same mistakes as destiny. No way to group up, no story thus far, op characters (sage, cypher) and a clear meta is emerging. The Devs seem to hate certain characters too, when asked who is the favourite character one Dev in particular States omen is his favourite... Yet he never plays him. Omen too is my favourite but his abilities are really really poor compared to other characters.. So yeh, balance issues, bullet spread issues and hit reg issues.oh
....did I mention, they seem to hate on solo players too. Ranked will be a joke/non existent with stacks Vs solos

Just thought of something from one of my favourite games and that is poorly implemented difficulty. Civ6 boosts the AI at the start of the game with more than you and gives them an inherent bonus throughout the game, rather than just making the AI play better.

I hate any game that is open world sandbox for no reason. It doesn't suit ever game and we just end up with multiple games set on an island where you explore and shoot things.....

State of Decay 2 - a very poor bug ridden sequel to a brilliant first game. The fact if you get the DLC that lets you play the story from 1 on the same engine just to make it a pleasant experience to play says it all.

Just Cause 4 - complete and utter rubbish sequel to JC3 tried to play it twice and I just cant stand it. Ruined everything that made JC2 and JC3 great and I sank 200+ hours into them combined.
