The hard drive in question is a Western Digital 1TB internal HD, which was working fine this morning until my download manager crashed as it was saving a file to the HD. So I restarted and then the problem occurred. It doesn't look good after a few google searches but windows is still managing to detect the file size and volume name (well it appears and disappears).

I cannot access any content via windows or CMD/DOS. I've only had the western digital 1TB for around 1year/1year half which is very disappointing. It is 85% full with a lot of data.

Is this a lost cause or should I think about sending it off for a professional to look at? I hear they can be very expensive. The worst part is I was about to order another hard drive to act as a backup but I didn't have the money at the time

Always buy two hard drives at a time if you're using them to store data

Try another sata cable (and then try another sata port), you may be lucky into that just the cable is dodgy.

It worked! I had previously twiddled with the SATA connectors to see if one had fallen out. I replaced the SATA cable connecting to the 1TB and its working now.

I have been given a 2nd chance. Praise the lord

Thank you, bledd. :D
