The Royals

Who cares? It's history, it's tradition. Something any country should be proud to have.

You lot reek of jealousy and I can guarantee that they have contributed to the nation more than any of you or myself.

I wouldn't want the life, I'd enjoy the money of course.

The life wouldn't be great. Under constant scrutiny by the press with some of them jumping on every opportunity they see. Seen driving a V8 Range Rover? 'Won't you think of the planet!' Taking a private jet, even if it is for security reasons? 'Think of the environment!' Have a drink and even, God Forbid, get drunk in public? Splashed across every newspaper and news website around the world. Charity work takes up most of your day with a lot of travelling.

2. Princess Diana (god bless her soul) was a lovely lady in public, but enjoyed many relationships whilst still married to the future heir - should she simply not have resigned her post?

People gave Diana a free pass because she was photogenic. They didn't care that she spent most of her time sleeping around. Apparently that's acceptable behaviour when you're the Duchess of whatever she was.

When the marriage broke down and Charles retreated to the arms of the sweetheart he'd been forbidden to marry in his youth, the Diana fans decided this was disgusting and completely unforgivable.

I though it was because she was a genuinely good person, so what if she didn't find her marriage to be successful, divorce rates soured in the 70s onward, in fact it probably makes the royal family more human realistically even if it does damage the 'brand'. At least she was honest about it too.

Is there any credible evidence to support this allegation?

Yes. She is known to have had affairs with at least five different men.

* James Hewitt
* James Gilbey
* Oliver Hoare (with whom she had a maniacal obsession, phoning him at his house literally hundreds of times after he went back to his wife)
* Will Carling
* Hasnat Khan

Diana died as she'd lived: irresponsibly.

I though it was because she was a genuinely good person

It was more the case that she was good at appearing to be a genuinely good person.

so what if she didn't find her marriage to be successful

So why does Charles get all the hate and Diana gets all the excuses?

At least she was honest about it too.

Was she? Charles was the one who fronted up on national TV to give an frank interview about the state of his marriage, and his affair with Camilla. Diana just slept around. Where's the honesty?

But only two of those were before her and Charles had already publicly separated the others are only technically affairs, one of them wasn't even an affair but a regular relationship after her divorce and all of them were after Charles had already had an affair himself and the marriage had started breaking down.

It was Charles and Camilla's relationship that lead to her affairs, Charles' relationship or strong friendship with his ex Camilla carried on, overlapping the marriage to Diana itself. He claims that he only started it up again in 1986 but she claims that there were various instances even before the marriage where she's seen a gift of a bracelet to her on his private secretary's desk containing the initials of their pet names for each other etc.. Charles is supposed to have said: "I refuse to be the only Prince of Wales who never had a mistress"

Either way her affair with James Hewitt started in 1986 the rest came after that. They both knew full well that Charles and Camilla were carrying on and she confronted Camilla about it at a party in 1989.

They separated in like 92, and divorced in 1996

The relationships with Will Carling and Oliver Hoare were in the 90s after they'd publicly separated so while technically affairs they're hardly a big deal. The relationship with Khan wasn't an affair as she was already divorced. The James Hewitt one is the controversial one but seems fair enough if Charles was playing away too.

Should the BBC be compared with the tabloid newspapers
subsequently had an interview with maitless on r4, who now has an autobiogrpahy,
... she was disingeniously joking about the interview she knew what he/she had done, but put her journalistic morals first .. wonder if the BBC are backing off with the proposed further panorama volunteered inteview with victims lawyer, is it ?

Some analogue between Corbyn not 'apologising' like Andrew didn't

But only two of those were before her and Charles had already publicly separated

How does that make it any better?

the others are only technically affairs

They were literally affairs.

and all of them were after Charles had already had an affair himself and the marriage had started breaking down.

Again, this doesn't justify anything.

How does that make it any better?

Because they’d separated. Someone having a relationship after they’ve separated but are just married on paper is different to someone not separated and cheating on their partner.

They were literally affairs.

Yes, I didn’t dispute that - technically they were affairs as they were still legally married. In reality they were separated, publicly, at the time so rather different.

Again, this doesn't justify anything.

I’d disagree there, if he’s cheating on her/treating the marriage like that then it sets a precedent.

given that he's already shown a worrying propensity for trying to meddle in politics
like the politics of preserving the environment ... problem is he's becoming to old now to be effective in the position, even, when he gets the reins.
They're youngish, but the Wills and Harry ingratiating themselves in mental health causes using their mothers name, I've found misplaced,
more insightful, they might thave ackowledged the role social media is having in this, but, corrective actions maybe political ... can you avoid politics.

Post the interview, the Queen, was on the news attending an event with Andrew too, which seemed tacit/inappropriate/insensitive approval.
