The RX Vega 56 Owners Thread

Can only speak for my PowerColor but it's obviously very quiet at idle due to zero fan and not excessive noise wise when it ramps up under load.

Was looking at the powercolor and sapphire, so would that be the best. And oh they loud or very very quiet

Pretty quiet, not too bad under load (I have a Powercolor Red Dragon). Most of the time it's silent with the fan set to zero-rpm. It only runs the fans when gaming. Obviously you need good airflow in your case, as all that heat has to go somewhere.

It is a big card, so you have to make sure it fits in your case.

Depends if you buy a blower or a decent aftermarket like PowerColor or Sapphire.

Depends on how they're setup, my Vega in its quiet profile (undervolted) (blower) is as loud as my case fans, personally at the price there's no reason not to go blower unless you want all out performance (at which point you should go Vega 64/r7/Navi ) anyway

I can understand you trying to justify your purchase but for the sake of £30 the only reason to buy a blower is if your cramming it into an sff or putting it on water, or have 8 case fans running at 100% or are hard of hearing :p

Eh, if you've never used one I'm guessing you really don't have a clue,

Also quite a few still arriving with Samsung HBM, reference board as stated can be watercooled easier and not to mention flashable bios which allows the HBM to run well faster then the much slower non reference versions hynix (or 1.2v lock for these 56s with aftermarket cooling)

;)

Yes, I was introduced to the powercolor when deciding what to buy a good friend let me have a dabble,

I couldn't justify paying extra for a card to have the smallest improvement in noise Vs a well setup reference profile which is exactly why I purchased 2 of them.

The big winner for me though was the water cooling options.... Samsung HBM on both was just luck

I wanted the saph but imo didn't feel like going extra there either, was close to getting the nitro 64s though

Another note if choosing reference is the MSI oc edition features bigger vents at the rear allowing it to expell slightly more air when running pretty quiet, this might be another reason my GPUs retain good temperatures while running, I'm not sure it's the same for all models of Vega ref but point is

Get the one that suits your budget and overall build but don't strike reference off as being terrible because it really isn't...

do the sapphires have Samsung HBM ? or is it pot luck with these cards or any other card.

so it looks like sapphire or powercolor or a MSI for the reference fo a quiet models. surprised the powercolor is quiet as it has 3 large fans on there

I believe it's pot luck but more bias towards reference models for some reason (don't quote me on that)

You might be right about the triple fans though, if I remember rightly my friends ramp up then came back down to quieter levels (long time ago mind!)

They don't have to run as fast as a single fan, so they end up quite quiet. The heatsink is also pretty big and a large chunk hangs over the edge of the card. If you got reasonable airflow in your case, it's quite happy to be passively cooled all the time you are not actually gaming.

Pot luck on the memory, My 56 at full chat with 3 fans is quieter than my RX470 Sapphire Nitro with 2 fans, I was genuinely surprised at that.

I don't think there's a wrong choice with Vega at this point, I think Navi will under perform but if they 7nm Vega like they are on Mac we will see a strong performer for sure!

thanks

I been doing some reading up and herd about this coil whine is this a problem with all cards or pot luck, if you hear it is it a faulty card or normal. Just wating for a good deal on these cards now.
