The RX Vega 64 Owners Thread

Could someone with a Sapphire Vega64 Nitro+ tell me what sort of noise the cooler makes? On mine the motor noise is really quite audible and I dont know if thats normal or not. On my previous card (a GTX970) there was no motor noise just the whooshing of the fans.

There shouldn't be any motor noise, just the fans speeding up. Can you record and post please?

Well I finally got a chance to install my new Nitro+ last night and have a quick play. First impression was that the card is absolutely huge! It's been a while since I had my 295x2 but this feels even longer than that. Everything installed nice and easily but I only had a little bit of time so no tweaking done yet but everything was running really well at stock. So nice to finally have Freesync back. Hopefully tonight I'll get a chance to try out the undervolting and overclocking mentioned on here.
The only slight problem I found was that my card has a moderate amount of coil whine, nothing to bad but just about noticeable over my fans.

Pressed the trigger. Nitro 64 coming tomorrow! Looking forward to tuning it over the week. Running an old dell ultrasharp 3008wfp 30 inch at the moment. I can see that undervolting it is recommended. Will scour the forums for a guide to the vega 64 overclocking etc. Excited!

Coil whine is directly related to power. Did you tried my settings found here? It should remove bit also a -75mv without losing perf but further reducing power and whine.

And yes the card is huge, but has scaffolding coming with it :P

I'm afraid i failed pretty hard at recording the sound, all i could pick was the standard "sssshhhhhh" of the fans. I have to put my ear quite close to the card (a few inches) but there is definitely two noises coming from it, the "ssssshhhh" of the fans and a higher pitched sound that to my ears sounds like the motors. I'm confident it's not coil whine as it isn't quite that high pitched screech.

I'm tempted to send it back and ask OCUK to test it and if it does sound wrong then a replacement would be fine, if it's meant to make those two noises then i'll probably ask for a refund and look for a different card.

My Powercolor also whines a bit. But with an 80fps cap and undervolt it's completely silent on most games (the fans don't even need to spin on less demanding games).

AMD have done things differently than Nvidia, there is no cap on the power usage and the card won't start throtting until far higher temps. So if you don't reign things in and set limits (you can do it in wattman) it will just go nuts, rendering totally unnecessary amounts of FPS and making loads of noise.

Mine Nitro+ 64 also has some coil whine but after undervolting i really dont notice it and no performance is lost so its a clear win in my book.. absolutely love the card so fare.. but yes.. its the biggest of brutes. It barely fits in my corsair carbide air 540.. i mean thats just insane!

My monitor is only 60hz so should i limit things in wattman even though i always game with vsync on?

I wouldn't to be honest. Yeah sure you get abit more speed 1600 vs 1500 and better noise level but its not worth the change in my eyes.

i had the sapphire in my basket, but thought against it, ill hold out i think. im thinking of heading to 1440 and i know this reference model will sound like a dyson hoover at that res.
