The Silent Hill: Townfall thread

Yeah, have you played Still Wakes the Deep based on an oil rig? It’s a short story horror based game, it’s quite good.
Yeah played that and enjoyed that one too, very atmospheric game
I loved Atomfall, which was set in the UK and WAB enjoyed it as well :D
I quite liked Atomfall, the hidden UK cultural easter eggs were cool but I found the game itself a little basic for my tastes, decent but lacked the sort of depth I like, I think it did sell pretty well though so hopefully if they do an Atomfall 2 they will flesh the game mechanics out a bit

I'm really struggling with this now.

I just got to the bit where you play as Zoe for the second time, and have to x-ray the person etc. - I go out into the hall to find more enemies and I just can't be bothered. I wish there was more "downtime" between enemy encounters. After going through long section of the game where it's pure stealth, I hoped for half an hour to chill. Oh well...

Same here, and the characters like Zoe and Simon are more annoying than anything, the game is super weird, just pushing myself through it now

Yup same as me. This is why I put it on story mode. And even on story mode it's still annoying!

Game isn't very good unfortunately.

They've tried to use SH2 as a template.

The town and the fog. Then the hospital (which is where I'm at). The dark decent and the dark halls.

Straight out of SH2. But SH2 was fun! It had decent combat. Decent exploration and puzzles.

This is has none of that. It's just frustrating.

How this scored an 8/10 I have no idea. It's a 5 at best and only gets a 6 by virtue of the graphics being decent.

Can't wait to finish it.

No good puzzles? I hope the story and atmosphere at least hold up.

The atmosphere is there. The graphics are good. But I find the monsters hide and seek loop just annoying.

The puzzles some of them are annoying.
Are there still separate difficulty settings for puzzles?
Yeah I don't think atmosphere alone can carry a game with bad gameplay. I guess the characters and story aren't really pulling you in?

Yes you can set the difficulty.

It's the hide and seek loop with the monsters that is annoying. It's not very fun.

Does it make you do the same as SH2 when you do an area and then straightaway forced into the alternative of the same area.

Aha!

So the reason why I didn't see any shader comp at the start as because it loads too fast lol, if I try to beat the comp then I see this for like several seconds before it's done.

So this is a good example of what frustrates me about this game.

I am on the level where Simon is in the dark hospital hall ways with the red lights and empty rusty beds.

There is an unkillable monster that stalks you. But there is no objective on the map, no indication of where I should go that I am just going from room to room trying to avoid the monster that is out there roaming around.

This part plays like Alien Isolation where you have to hide in the cupboards. But it just isn't fun.

In RE9 there was also super powerful monsters stalking you but that was fun!

This is just a chore. I played it for about 30 mins and turned it off because it got frustrating.

Gonna be a slog to finish this game. Hope to get through this part of the game as soon as possible.

There is a mod where you can press F9 to freeze the enemies. I've been using it on this bit because quite frankly, I just can't be bothered with that kind of nonsense, lol.

New patch just dropped. They've 'Reduced' stuttering allegedly. I'll install the game later to give it a go.

Locked 60fps that is as well.

Uncapped:

Both DLSS Quality...

Alright I figured it out, the micro judders are due to using the ingame FPS limiter, setting that to 240fps (effectively non ingame limiter) and instead using RTSS to fps cap, the frametime line is as flat as a corpse's heart:

So yeah, avoid using any ingame fps limiters at all costs with UE5 or in general really.
