The Silent Hill: Townfall thread

If you have the latest driver then recommended will automatically pick L and F accordingly anyway and Frame Gen mode B is apparently the best too but again recommended will pick the latest based on driver version. I just like manually setting the main 2 though for peace of mind.

Weird there is no way to turn HDR on and off in the game menu.

Luckily HDR seems to work fine, no dodgy grey blacks.

I think the game is doing some form of shader comp because my CPU was at 100% for the first minute or two after starting the game, which was just a splash screen and menu screen

Hmm I did not see that on first run, it just loaded into the splash screens which you could not skip first time but afterwards could ttap a button to skip each one.

If it did it during that first time then it was so quick (under 1 minute) which is barely enough time to compile enough shaders. Last of us 2 for example takes several minutes tro compile shaders.

It annoys me when games force HDR and then don't allow me to customise it in game or even turn it off ... Quite often it's badly implimeted so dark scenes are too dark and bright scenes burn your eyes out.

Shaders do get compiled. Someone posted a review saying no shader comp and got slaughtered on reddit as it definitely does run shaders on first load.

Lower end hardware vs someone on higher end components most likely.

The average plebbitor is probably sat there for an hour screaming at the screen and wondering why their SteamDeck is taking so long, and that's the best case.

Slightly tongue in cheek with the above before anyone gets mad. :p

It's right though.. A lot of games do that on first run or after a gpu driver update etc. If there's been no changes then it should zip through it in a few seconds at most.

Played an hour with HDR and yeah HDR is done quite nice in this, no need to adjust anything as long as your Windows HDR ios calibrated using the Windows tool then good to go.

Ergo the "slightly" tongue in cheek.

I've heard similar complaints a bunch in the past with various games, titles that weren't anywhere near as bad for me vs what many described and I'm hardly on the cutting edge (5800X3D/32gb/5070ti/Gen4 NvME).

The unfortunate fact is a lot of people on much lower end hardware are told via "min-recommended" requirements that they'll have a much better time than they really will, and that can include shader comp.

Sometimes (often) they've got flat out wrong expectations, aka the same people who wonder why their 7 year old GPU requires upscaling to be viable with a late 2026 game.

We want our compiled shaders...

... and we...

... want them...

... now!

Should just get an OLED monitor, they upscale the shaders for you or something apparently.
Speaking of, I put shader cache to unlimited, be interesting to see what if any difference that makes.

True, but minimum requirements are called minimum requirements for a reason.. Doesn't stop people biychin though.

Minimum does not mean ideal.

Didn't know much about this game, other than I read one review and enjoyed Silent Hill 2.

Turns out you play more than one character, I am currently playing as Zoe

Yeah that was a surprise too! I suspect having now reached that part that

The actions of both characters interact as they are exploring the same areas, which could be kinda neat and why Konami were doing DMCAs on early videos by people who got physical copies early.

I plan to play this game and clicked your spoiler tag. I don't know what's wrong with me.

An announcement for an announcement heh

The icon stutter is due to injecting FG, a classic byproduct of doing that in a game that has no FG natively.

I did some testing between Preset L vs M and Engine.ini vs no ini file (stock) and found that it appears that L still remains the best even with 4K Performance mode since L is "officially" made for Ultra Performance and is more GPU heavy, on a higher end GPU this is a non-issue. L is clearly more stable temporally:
