I'm just thinking about the "SL.. disappointed" threads when people see there aren't many UI tweaks. If you're after speed then fair enough :p

I think that is inevitable. Then again Leopard didn't have a lot of GUI changes either.

I'm hoping that the last two builds (Leopard and Snow Leopard) are ramping up for something very exciting in 10.7 - it'll all be worth it then...hopefully

Will Snow Leopard be availible to buy in Apple Stores tomorrow and are they likely to have a decent number of copies?

Mine has been shipped today at last (thought it wasn't going to be at all).

Skeptical whether it will arrive tomorrow or not though.

Looks like I'll be doing a clean install then. Growl (I don't use it much and can reinstall it later once it has been fixed) and a few other bits and bobs are not really compatible.

@ andy.. if you boot off the DVD you can use Disk Utility to wipe the drive and install fresh*

I hope so. The Engadget review was a bit vague about this. Anyway I need to back up my iTunes stuff ready for Install Day tomorrow.

Will this also keep the stuff ive put in the Sort Artists/Album fields on each track?

I am not 100% clear what you mean. If you mean the "order" of playlists (being sorted by date added, album name etc) then I think my Playlists were unaffected.

If you mean the names of tracks/artists/composer/genre etc, these are all stored inside ID3 tags in mp3 files (and presumably something similar in AAC etc) so these are not affected either and will remain as they were.

p.s. Anyone with a MBP 4.1 running this yet? 4.1 had a multitouch trackpad but did not get the 4 finger swipes when the newer machine got them. To get them you have to swap the appropriate file with a newer MBPs files. Just wondering if this is the case in SL or will it actually give 4 finger swipes to any hardware that supports it (rather than restrict it based on model numbers). http://www.super-poultry.com/2008/12/4-finger-multi-touch-for-older-mbps/

I suppose I'll be hugely disappointed if the most annoying shortcomings of OSX aren't addressed.

It would be silly if whole QuickTime interface was redesigned but there was still no native "always on top" option - a simple feature Apple is asked every time they roll out new QT version. And every time they forget.

It would be silly if they focused on icon sizes in Finder but still didn't add simple "breadcrumb" to indicate where exactly user is when the folder is opened in list view. Or if you used search from finder bar just to find out results of searches still only feature "Name", "Kind" and "Last Opened" sorting, instead of allowing sort by "size", "created" or "modified" flags.

It would be silly to find out that OSX is now fully 64bit but still leaves rubbish files like .DS_Store all over local and network folders and changing modification dates of folders when you only view them without making any changes...

Youve pretty much nailed every annoyance of OSX.

The absence of a Float on Top option in Quicktime has always annoyed me and from the reviews Ive read , this doesnt seem to have changed with Quicktime X. Ive taken to use Niceplayer , which has a float on top option.

It's the first time I've started QuickTime Player since installing leopard. You're right! DVD Player has an 'always front'.

I can't decide whether to do a clean-install or let the SL installation do it's own thing.

Part of me thinks that the system will run better if I do a completely fresh install.

Another part of me really can't be bothered with the time it's going to take re-installing and updating all of my software...

I need to work out if the performance increase of a fresh-install justifies the hassle of getting everything back to the way I want it.

I'm sceptical that its worth it but I'm also a purist so this is killing me.

What's your views?

I'd save yourself the hassle and just upgrade, that's what I'm going to do and I've never had any problems before (I've done a mixture of upgrades/wipes over the years). I never bother with a full wipe unless my installation is pretty old, or it's already slow.

I'm really excited! Heading out after work to the local Store immediately to purchase it and install on my MBA.....

Tehehehehe exciting!!!!!!!!!!

:p:o

hmmmm i have a funny feeling i'm going to look at it when it's done and go

'' and ''

as i already have the snow leopard background.

upgrade here as in a few reviews they said as long as you have a pretty standard install it'll be fine!
