The new stacks in grid view really don't suit the 3d glass dock at all, nor the right click options on dock items. Goes very well with the black 2d dock but seems really hotchpotch when using the default.

How do you get the black 2d dock?

I have always found at least do one zero out just so OS X runs at it's fastest. I always seemed to get more errors over time if i didn't.

Doing a single pass zero useful to ensure a drive is perfect (no defects) but it's not required for clean installation. With an SSD you don't want to do any zero initialisation if possible as it will shorten the life of the drive.

I'm kinda torn between the two but the new stacks in grid view do not combine well at all with the glass dock.

oops! didn't do that. Is it really that recommendable to do that?

If you have only got the bare essentials installed i'd say go for it. In the long run i think it is worth it.

Like when you are installing windows xp, who uses the quick format option? I have always used the full reformat option on any computer to avoid corrupted data.

Yeah, you wanna do a 32times pass with one of those! :p

How quick does a SSD take to zero out?

T'other way round isn't it?
Stacks definito better with 2d dock
You're right, edited my post.

The 3d dock never worked really well imo because of the title bar. The window drop shadows look great and definitely match the 3d dock but then your eyes get to the flat title bar and it just 'breaks' the 3d effect.

Seems a bit of a shame that Snow Leopard stacks are still designed around the 2d dock when this would have been a great opportunity to redesign to the 3d dock.
Still, Steve knows best I suppose.

Do you need a Microsoft mouse for those drivers to change the acceleration curve?

Afraid so. I have a Mighty Mouse as well and it doesn't work.

Kind of ironic though, switching back a a Mac has ensured that I'll only ever buy Microsoft mice from now on. All for that little "Windows-style acceleration curve" option.

I got home from holiday to find Royal Mail had dropped it through my letterbox. I'm just doing a SuperDuper! to a different hard drive which I'll then remove and store somewhere safe and then I'm just going to let it upgrade my Leopard installation.

Next month I should be picking up an SSD so I'll end up doing a fresh install on that but this will do for now.

Is it just my eyes playing tricks on me but my display appears a lot more 'vibrant' than it did with Leopard.

All done, just playing now. That really was painless.
