So interesting question, if the A7 III and the A7R III where more or less the same price would that change peoples purchasing choice?
Depends what you shoot, do you need the focus system or do you need the resolution?
I see what your saying but it was just a general question really and I was just interested to see what people would choose.
It's annoying but I believe this is a mirrorless problem, not just Sony. It is due to the sensor and IR filter.Any nightlife/concert/evening party type shooters on here? This is what is stopping me going full over to Sony - I love my A7III its awesome, but I am currently keeping my 5D3 etc because the sony is useless in no/low light as the flash gun doesn't support IR assisted focusing - any ideas when sony will be using a canon/nikon like AF from the flash gun ?
How will they fix this for night life photography ?
It's a massive gap in the cameras capabilities IMO - I mostly make a living off weddings, and dark rooms, first dance/evening parties suffer as well with AF on the sony - the LED assist lamp isnt any good and also blinds people.
Some guy on dpreview forum said:The Godox X1T-S flash trigger, with the latest firmware (released within the last month), will project an AF assist beam in AF-S mode that appears as a cross-hash red pattern on the subject. It definitely works with their system to AF in low to no light.
I can only imagine the beam is not IR, but some other visible wavelength that is reddish. If it is IR, then it must be some wavelength in the IR spectrum not totally filtered by the sensor's IR filter.
Regardless, it works and from my limited testing, it works well.
ive got that trigger and tried it and it diddnt work for me on my a7r3 or a9It's annoying but I believe this is a mirrorless problem, not just Sony. It is due to the sensor and IR filter.
I shoot some nightclub events and so far my A7r3 has been ok as long as I use minimum ISO 3200 and F5.6, but it definitely hunts sometimes.
I did some research and found: https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4266745
according to reviews and forums it's fast and accurate on it. If not it will be going back to Amazonu sure that sigma can af'c and track well on the a7mk3?

Apparently the canon version with adapter works much better than the sigma lens plus adapter for some strange reason. Plus allows me to use other canon glass.
Will be shooting some bif this weekend so that will be the test. Can't get over how huge it is. I have been spoilt with the Olympus 300mm f4 which has the same reach. That onmy weights about 1kg and is only 10 inches long. Plus diameter is only 70mm Vs 105 on the sigma. This is a monster!
Man size? Bloody giant size! Glad I have a monopod. No way will I be hand holding for hours
