Why wouldn't it run?
It's not running directX (Borderlands may be a bad example, as I'm unsure if there's an OpenGL/Linux port)

I'm speaking in a hardware point of view. I'm fairly sure that most of these sellers would just stick Windows on it.
That would defeat the purpose of it being a Steam box unless they offer it as an option. I'm pretty sure Steam would not be happy with that since their intention is to get away from windows.

I'm really confused about what you are trying to say.
Where's the streaming box?! I want to play my PC games in the home cinema!!
The steam machine is not being aimed at people that can build their own PC as it's a losing battle. They are making them to market the PC as a gaming device.
They want to get console gamers into the idea of buying one of these and converting to PC gaming and buying games on steam.
"Spark is set to launch in the first quarter in Windows 7, Windows 8 and Steam OS configurations."
That's at least one steam machine that's confirmed to come with Windows.
EDIT: They want to make a small gaming PC that is the same form factor as a console, Steam is just a great way of marketing it and pushing it out there.
I still don't really see the point of these?
Especially the expensive ones....I mean if your paying that much why wouldnt you just build a custom PC yourself?
I can understand the console priced ones but the more powerfull ones i think id just stick with my own built pc.
I get that they're aiming it at people who aren't us.
But why would these people not just buy a gaming PC now? They're not going to suddenly buy one because it's got steam slapped on it.
