THE subteam signup thread

What about the idea of two or even three subteams, balanced so that their outputs are approximately equal, and forgetting individual IDs for subteam contributors so that there are just two/three IDs on the stats? Much like back in the days of SETI Classic?

I hope throwing this idea in doesn't offend but just wanted to see what other people thought of it. :)

That's not a bad idea, obviously curing nasty horrible illnesses is the main aim but the thrill of folding is the close chases.

As to stats the team gets a collective entry that will apear on EOC and Stanford, but each member of the team gets their own breakdown within that (see links above via jo's orginal sub team thread) so you've the best of both.

As to multipul teams I've no problem with that at all - just thought i try out one first to see how it goes - what happens after that is anyones guess :D

I have decided not to join a subteam. I'm a force of nature all by myself :D

Also, the Linux script that the website has is overly complicated [and I am too lazy]. :D

If I get a new cruncher, I'm willing to throw that into a pot somewhere. I stress if, because it's not happening yet. I do also have one slowish PC that's BOINCing. I'd be willing to throw that in when it's done it's current work, for what little it's worth.

My main farm has targets to achieve, like getting in the World Top 1,000. Overachiever or not, I can't afford to let any of those go just yet. Once I'm there, maybe.

Interesting idea, but I won't be signing up. I'll try my best to avoid being stomped by the combined efforts whilst I continue my quest to reach the lofty top 20 cells - I've heard they have carpet

Thanks for the feedback guys - so there you have it, many of the die-hards and mentals are laying down the gauntlet, with their own production.

They've painted themselves EOC 'target' red, and I've just opened a whole
subteam sized tin of ronseal woop arse 'does what is says on the tin'.
Plenty going spair for all members :D

if theirs no more new sub team name nominations, these Three seam the
best so far, simple, short and no spaces.

[stompalot] topical
[OcUK] obvious
[PPP] latin wildcard

but I'm not inspired by any of them so I'll have a think......

....(half hour later)

[SIR]

This work on three levels
- Firstly on a practical level, sir 'username' works with everything
(SIR WoZZeR, SIR Brightside, SIR shadowscotland etc, etc)

- Secondly it relavent, we've been calling each other 'sir' when Tiffy are posted,
milestones reached or just general good folding behaviour :D .

- Thirdly it stand for Subteam Infra Red
If the targets, sorry fellow members are EOC red the subteam needs
a 'higher' colour. Infra-red

so there're your five choices fokes.

[stompalot]
[OcUK]
[PPP]
[sIR]
[SIR]

Edited to aplease the spelling dons (appease I know it's a joke)

Right i've quickly read through this thread, can you let me know what the point of this new team/sub team is?
Basically, using that special stats site linked, by putting [OcUK] (for example) at the front of you're name, you can enter into a sub-team. This will allow a group of lower-production people to take on the crazys of the folding world as a team. Using the special stats site, you can monitor the progress of the team and yourself within it.

Obviously, changing your name means that you would be starting from 0 again, so you might not choose to do it if you're slowly getting somewhere. Personally, I think I'm going to stick to slowly stomping away by myself - it taken me the best part of 2 years to get this far, so I'm not about to let it all go.

Almost - it's not specific to lower-production people, I'm entering my home rig that good for 1000ppd, and I'd encourage all the single machine crunchers to join up even cob. The points you gained so far don't disappear, and the group total will hopefully be overtaking A.N.O's@230k in about 4-7 weeks!

True, but their nothing to say you can't add your scores together. :p
But everyone that joins today will all start at the same time, so new members can gauge themselves against the long timers - nothing like a level playing field to encourage competition and banter :D
The difference between this and a competition (with temp. ID's) is that all the subteam members are also gaining an on-mass official score to match that of the mental’s here in team10 and the many other's around the world.
Now Stans gone we don't have anyone in the top 100 producers representing Team 10 (growse is 130th on current ppd)

I've nothing against the slowly getting somewhere brigade, after all I'm leaving the rest of the farm on my lemonman ID@1200ppd, I just think its a wasted opportunity to get Team10 back in the World 100.
If every member added one cruncher (their best preferably but I know that is very unlikely) to the subteam the output would put team ten squarely on the map in both the team leagues and the user leagues (9200ppd gets us top 100)

Edit: Just taking this weeks single cruncher league results, and excluding the top 5 - the combined total gives 67,400 points for the week (9.6k ppd) job done 96th in the world.
Add the top 5 and it's 131,874 (18.8k ppd) and we're 32th!

It's a bit like borging but you are able to see individual machines within the username/sub-team. So you can still track your individual outputs.

Ok, so what do I have to do to join the subteam, presumably I just run -configonly on my current clients?

But it's not actually one user... which, in terms of competing in the user league, is kinda cheating - no?

Not saying the subteam's a bad idea, but you can't shove half the team under one username and claim victory over someone making a heroic effort to get to 9kppd on their own.

Kinda agree with this. Does seem like cheating in a way. Still, I wont worry about this as I will just ignore any stompage from the new sub-team as I will know you're all cheating :p

I've yet to see what this will look like in the stats - it was my understanding that everyone will appear seperately but that 3rd party sites would lump together all the people with the same [team] name at the beginning.

Personally I'm going to stick as I am for now, I'm generally in the top40ish crunchers most of the time and although I'm only going backwards in terms of team position at the moment that will only be until my money situation gets back the right way :p :D

If people are only switching machines over from today then I'll have a chance to see how the stats look before the news next week and decide if I need to do anything much different or not :)

Myth Confirmed :)

They have windows too. :)

So I'm confused - do all members crunch under the same name, or all under different names with the same prefix?
