THE subteam signup thread

Ok I see your point (and in all honestly I totally agree) - but I don't beleave for one second that their are a hundered stans out their in the world with personal high proformance farms on their companies electric bill ;)

Now IT managers with an office/school to borg maybe, and surly a borg is only one step away from a folding friend? I'm not trying to over justify this - at this stage it just a test that has the potential of becoming a perminant feacture. I'd also like to point out that it's very name (due to the brackets) proves its a team so their no misunderstanding.

Ok that said, on to the details:
their is only one subteam at present and as only one person expressed a preferance we'll use [SIR] (edited)

As WoZZeR rightly said you just need to stop the client and run the -config or -configonly flag.

Finstall user, should try something like this (but it didn't work for me - typical)

cd to foldingathome then open fah_config. Add the flags between the quotes in the file.

gedit ~/foldingathome/fah_config

FAH_flags"-configonly"

User names - this would be mine: [SIR] shadowscotland

so as Mr.B said "all under different names with the same prefix" the space is optional

and cell one has a serviceable maid

Edit: started writing this post hours ago - my little one woke up screeming and i'e just had dinner so apoliges for the delay - oh and I'm still struggling with ubuntu (again)

I'm rather confused now - If you are all signing up to an account with team names of "[team] username" as part of the mighty team 10 that is OcUK, surely that is just going to generate a mass of new user accounts in stats like EOC, and even Stanford's own site. Yes a couple of specialist sites may show the subteam, but most won't. On the sites that don't handle subteams surely you're just creating a mountain to reclimb?

Bah! Don't do that. It's start it invisibly and wait forever for you to enter info. do this:
cd ~/foldingathome/CPU1
./FAH504-Linux.exe -configonly (change this to be whatever your console client is called.)

to late billy (but thanks anyway) killed folder and redid finstall - but it's not happy rebooting now

Edit: Ok to answer MGP question each user starts afresh on EOC and Stanford see here and here it's just Kakao that combines them :o - so all that stuff about top 100 is rubish (sorry should have checked) and rich your stats will be fine

Edit2: I'm off

[22:31:02] - Ask before connecting: No
[22:31:02] - User name: [SIR]_shadowscotland (Team 10)
[22:31:02] - User ID: 3CA48F4B61521CC3
[22:31:02] - Machine ID: 1
[22:31:02]
[22:31:02] Work directory not found. Creating...

Edit3: must go to bed - another early start tomorrow :(

I find I'm much less attracted to the idea of many small folders combined on a third-party site to make a team than I am to having them combined as one ID at Stanford. Frankly, it's just not worth checking what one borg does on its own as a separate ID. I think this method just artificially inflates the number of folders in team 10 and means one has to check yet another site to see real progress.

to be honest - I'm starting to think the same. But I guess if it's successful the sticky could be changed to the subteam id is generated first, if the member then finds 20 pc to borg he/she sets up their farm ID. I'm sure Eoc will start using subteam scriptes (but then again if SB is having problems reading kakao site maybe not....)
As to checking yet another site - I'll just subsitute kakao for Eoc.

we'll give it two weeks and see what happens.

More important is I've gone and set up a [SIR] id when it should have been [stompalot] :o  and my ubuntu VM crashes after two steps :(

we'll stick with [SIR] but as I'm only at 3 persent I'm happy to change it using billy advise.

Edit: ubuntu now stable and just reread posts and looks as if I only said stompalot one (which I've edited), then ignored it with the example and setup post. [SIR] is is then, and thanks to ms9cw for confirming this on his post in the news thread

This gets more and more confusing.

What username do I type in -configonly?

Oh, and I'm running 2 clients, Linux SMP and a single GPU client running on the spare 13% which only outputs a few WU's per week, but every little helps.

Hmmm, I am puzzled as to how this works, I'm on 70% of a 1523 pointer so have a little while before panic sets in.:)

[SIR] WoZZeR

Firstly I'd recomend that you use the -oneunit flag to finish the current WU(and not the delete folder and run finstall again route - but i don't know how to with linux smp :o and every time i 'try' to do the right thing or update or upgrade i get problems :( so i really should learn to leave it alone, but I know I never will :D )

Anyway you've three choices. Either enter the smp client into the subteam or the GPU client. (or both but that slightly defeats the point of a single cruncher team but does make your monitoring easier)

1) to add the smp client to the subteam -

cd ~/foldingathome
./folding stop

cd ~/foldingathome/CPU1
./FAH504-Linux.exe -configonly (change this to be whatever your console client is called.)

Set user name to [SIR] WoZZeR.

cd ~/foldingathome
./folding start

2) to add the GPU client

stop client, use the -configonly flag, restart service (or from shortcut) and your done.

3) both of the above but for the first two weeks I'd be greatful if you just add the one client and let the other get you to page one via the long road.

I've just added -oneunit to the SMP so when it finishes this afternoon the next WU will be for the [SIR] subteam.

EDIT: It's going to take years to get into the top 100 OcUK folders with a GPU client running on 13% CPU power!!!!

That's what I'm thinking too. :)

What are your ETAs on that GPU? If it is only getting 13% of your CPU I honestly wouldn't bother. You're burning juice and keeping your GPU maxed out for very, very little gain. It's also bad for Stanford who have to wait ages for results.

My numbers could be wrong here but it would seem you are completing a frame every hour.. which means it takes over 4 days to finish a WU!? That's 79PPD. Not worth it at all.

Me three. Don't see the point of adding lots of new 'members' to the team (though I know we did it for a competition a while back). It just gives the impression of more active people when there aren't. I also thought the goal was to get on to page one of EOC. That's possible now in just over a month with an SMP client, but the more people make it, the higher the bar gets raised.

I am getting a frame every 16 minutes with very slight hit on the SMP:

Project : 2609
Core : Gromacs SMP
Frames : 100
Credit : 1523

-- SMP 1 --
Min. Time / Frame : 10mn 31s - 2085.38 ppd
Avg. Time / Frame : 11mn 07s - 1972.82 ppd

and:

Project : 2737
Core : Gromacs GPU
Frames : 100
Credit : 330

-- GPU 1 --
Min. Time / Frame : 6mn 05s - 781.15 ppd
Avg. Time / Frame : 13mn 23s - 355.07 ppd

They all get back before the preferred deadline.
