Anyone else think that this car is the most clever new car they've seen in ages.

No it's not fast, not that comfortable, but brand new it'll cost just £1200 in India. Frankly that is just awesome. For one thing, imagine it as a city car, makes the Smart look like what it is, i.e. an overpriced bauble. I have a LOT of respect for the Nano, possibly one of the most important cars in years.

i agree, i think it's incredible.
Though the critics are right, introducing a car this cheap will hugely increase traffic on the roads, therefore further pollution..

but the car as a concept is brilliant

Excellent car as a piece of engineering considering Toyota claimed they designed the Aygo from the ground up to be cheap. They don't know the meaning of the word :p and it's not that much uglier than an Aygo really.

However like previously mentioned looking at India’s congestion just from motorbikes, if they all drove these the congestion would be laughable :D .

The idea is brilliant, a nice small affordable car.

But I couldn't sit in one of those and feel even remotely safe or generally happy with it.

It has a 600cc engine, so it's not going to be going anywhere fast, I remember the news saying it was something like 60mh or 70mph maximum.
The main thing that scares me are those wheels! They look like they are smaller than my wheelbarrow's wheels!

I agree about the smart car comment, this is a small, affordable car unlike the smart which are stupidly expensive for what they are.

EDIT: Is it me, or is it RWD?!

Does the world really want a cheap car though? In the day and age where we are trying to reduce pollution - I very much doubt its as fuel efficient as the indian buses where they are sitting on the roof etc :p

Think about the implications for people who live in a big city and already commute to work.
Clearly you don't need performance so something small and cheap to run makes a lot of sense.
After all £1200 is less than most of our cars depreciate in a year, so it would be as cheap to throw it away every year and buy a new one, as to own a standard car.
I almost see it creating a 3 car household, one of these for in town work, a decent saloon for boring long journeys (Mondeo maybe) and something fun like a Westfield for a quick blast. More importantly, at it's cost to buy, it's not unviable to own one just for city work.

Population control? How safe is that?

This is made for India, it's not unusual to see a family of 4 on a moped there. That said if Rover were still going they'd probably try to sell it for £8,000 in this country.

thats pretty much exactly the reason i want one (and have been considering a smart....) I have to commute 5 min on a 40mph road to the train station to get into London (there no way i'm cycling it, would be a nightmare! and i'm not about to drive into london)

My misses drives a reasonable size car to work and tbh i want something a bit more fun again - solution a moped with a roof and a westie without... sorted and my carbon contribution on average probably stays about the same.

I guess the reason the Aygo & Smart aren't that cheap in comparison is that they were designed with the international market, and all the rules and regs that come with it, in consideration. Anyone can bolt a moped engine onto a fisher price body, but make is conform to EU directives....

So therefore this car needs to be disposable? otherwise we are going to end up with lots of old cars on our hands? Surely if they released it over here, they would have to spin it as a green car which you can dispose of and recycle etc as the USP. That could work :)

Even £1200 is a lot for 92% of Indians, so i doubt they will all be rushing out to buy one, the Ambassader has been £1000 for a number of years anyway over there.

Absolutely perfect for the City tho.

I'm sure i saw one of these last week, or something very similar anyway. It actually made me say out loud "what the **** is that?!"
