The Tata Nano

The idea is brilliant, a nice small affordable car.

But I couldn't sit in one of those and feel even remotely safe or generally happy with it.

It has a 600cc engine, so it's not going to be going anywhere fast, I remember the news saying it was something like 60mh or 70mph maximum.
The main thing that scares me are those wheels! They look like they are smaller than my wheelbarrow's wheels!

But it's designed for citys., when you'll be doing 30mph max. I rarely see that speed during the day.

Great cars, and if sold in the uk the will be upgrade (they don't say how" and is likely to cost 4k. which is still dirt cheap.

I wasn't complaining about the speed at all, as you say, for towns it's perfect.
The wheels just make me nervous is all. Having driven a car that was lower than that onto it's roof I'm not so keen on small cars that are high off the road. 4x4's etc. are ok as they have big wheels :D

but with the speeds it's going to go, it's not going to roll or be unsafe. In fact most "lifestyle" land rovers are very unstable.

I don't class most of these modern 4x4s as a real 4x4, only the rugged 'old' looking ones that can actually go off road count to me :p

I get what you mean though, going around town certainly won't encounter anything that'll throw the Nano on it's side.

The safety aspect of it is quite concerning though, if it costs £1200 to buy in India, and not much more here, just how safe a vehicle would it be in a crash test, against a car/wall?
Also what makes this (as with loads of small cars) unsafe is the whole Chelsea tractor thing that's going on at the moment, with all the '4x4s'. - In respect of crashes, a larger vehicle would squish it.

If they did do a dropped version, I'd be tempted...it looks so cool! (not the one with alloys) :D - Although speed bumps may be a bit of a pig.

For one thing, imagine it as a city car, makes the Smart look like what it is, i.e. an overpriced bauble.

for another thing, think of all the extra CO2.

Thats right, I said it, people in developing countries don't deserve to give off CO2, we're messing up the planet on our own, we don't need any help, thanks very much.
