The Thing - prequel to John Carpenter’s 1982 movie

I didn't think it was particularly bad, but a few things irked me massively.

1. They didn't blow the ice around the ship, which is explicitly shown in the recordings discovered by the Americans in the first movie.

2. When the Thing is discovered, the female character says that nobody should be alone with anybody (quite rightly), then immediately proceeds to split everyone up into pairs!

Watched this last fri and thought it was ok, definitely preferred the first original one but this one wasnt too bad in all honesty....better than some of the re-makes that i have seen, most noticeably Clash of the titans:p.

I thought in general it was a good telling of the Nord side of how they discovered/woke The Thing.

As you state I noticed those parts too, altho near the end of the movie I think (or maybe it wasn't intentional) the 'jets'(?) on the top of the vehicle cracking the ice above it which would have allowed the roof of ice to cave in. But like you say the original film tapes that MacReady and team viewed clearly showed the Nords standing and overlooking the craft.

It was good to see how the two faced Thing came to be and some nice touchs at the end, with the axe in the door, the radio operator and Lars with the rifle.

Possibility of another movie? (What did Kate do/where did she go? Russian camp?)

Look forward to the Bluray and hopefully have some extras to keep fans happy! :)

I thought it was "okay" I just felt that it didn't need to be remade or however they spun this.

The acting and cast were considerably better in the John Carpenter version, the effects in that were really amazing and have stood the test of time, these effects needed to make an equally big jump from effects of the current time, they don't.

Only plus was the attractive actress.

I got really confused, they killed the thing really early on whilst its digesting that guy, and yet (despite it being dead) somehow it still manages to replicate the humans and kill all of them.....but its dead.

I just didn't get how that worked unless there was 2 or 3 of them, then a friend pointed out it assimilated the dog first of all, so it was in-fact the dog-thing that was doing all the killing.

I was like "oh yeah" they didn't exactly make it obvious, I thought the thing was a-sexual and reproduced or something lol

meh, I wont get my hopes up...

The original is one of my all time favourites too, the sequence with them testing the blood with the hot wire has to be the epitome of how to create suspense in a movie.

That bit makes my toes curl every single time I see it! Even thinking about it makes me urrrrggggghghhh lol

Excellent film, even by todays standards!

The Dog was the first thing which it controlled, It stayed inside the dog for the whole film and stayed hidden until after the credits when you see it run away.

While it was in Dog form it also must have made a copy of itself and thats where it went inside the camp, where it can also take control of more than 1 person at a time.

Just turn the lights off and watch the film and then ask yourself what you thought of it.

:)

1982 version all the way 10 out of 10 and this one gets a 5 out of 10 from me.

1 out of 10 for effort.
Completely inconsistent with the 1982 film - where are the thermite charges?
Also there are unforgivable factual errors e.g. exploding fuel can.

The dog-thing and chopper were obviously tacked-on at the end because it just doesn't make any sense. They just magically appear from nowhere.

That's what completely threw me.
I was like "Wtf".

Eh? The guy chasing the dog was the man who went missing earlier on in the film.

It happened at the end because chronologically speaking... it's at the end! :o

Being a fan of the original I thought this film didn't have a chance in being any good at all. Surpprisingly it wasn't too bad. I'd give it a 6/10.

There’s always going to be some minor inconsistencies but on the whole this film didn't do any damage to the previous version and is a good addition to the series.

Ha! I didn't een realise it was a Prequel until I read this thread......fail!

It makes sense now....what with the huskey and all. I liked the film tbh, just as dodgy sfx wise as the first, but without the obvious Carpenter magic......

Besides I think Mary Elizabeth Winstead is hot.
