Will AMD really be doing much in the way of RT development..? They're using DXR which is developed by MS so i'd think most of the revisions will come from them, though i'd guess amd will be involved in it.

I'd be surprised if the next gen really show any specific upgrade over this when it comes to RT improvements, though i could definitely have misunderstood it.

Yep, 5700XT should be fine for another year of use, next year will be the 2nd generation of big navi so performance should be even better, plus AMD would have improved its RT performance a fair bit as it will likely be more "mainstream" then with next gen consoles all supporting it.

Yeah I would be holding fire if I had your card, should get a refresh and stock should be about by time your making the move.

Good thing that 3000 cards was a paper launch, makes this waiting game much easier.

With amd's 6000 series launch it looks like 6800xt and 3080 are about similar in performance and as such the price is essentially the same.

It is very suspicious that they did not show raytracing performance, which leads me to believe that it's awful, which would make it a pointless feature if the performance hit lowers fps below desirable levels.

Which leaves the question, which card is better value for money, 6800xt or 3080?

I have a 1440p ultrawide monitor and I kinda looked forward to playing some games with raytracing and dlss. So I suppose it comes down to nvidia DLSS + RT (as in playable fps RT) vs 6gb extra VRAM on amd card? What do you guys thinkg. What bout GDDR6X vs GDDR6, will this be a significant advantage or not down the road?
I watched the Codemasters Dirt 5 video and while its subtle, the shadow quality looked good and if they're to be believed it didnt cause that big of a performance hit. It will be interesting to see review results.

Er, what?
Could, you, use, any, more, commas?

:D

Just have to hope they do have a good supply, to really stick it to Nvidia, and to start getting some of that share back :D

Been a long time coming, last time they competed at the high end, was with the 290x i think, which was about 2013, 7 years ago!

I tip my hat to you AMD, welcome back :)

Out of all of them, i think Galax would be the #1 contender to push this, especially if the 6900XT firestrike scores are a strong as they appear to be.

They would have a real opportunity to remove EVGA from the top slot on 3DMark assuming Galax could get the appropriate support from AMD.

Maybe doing an 6900XTX would keep everyone happy and leave the 6900XT as non-custom.

I saw one of OCUK's competitors mention that they had 60,000 people trying to buy the 3070 at launch.... that's insane! They had captcha etc too so one assumes not too much by way of bots.

However much stock AMD have it's not going to be anywhere close to enough if that's any guide.

Anyone thinking that the AMD cards are not going to sell out as quickly as Nvidia's are kidding themselves or just want to hold onto some hope!
After waiting this long for the reveal, and of course the wait for the independent reviews, I can wait until 2021 to be able to get the new card.
To be honest I am happy to see AMD is back up there in both fields and I now have more options for my gpu upgrade then I have done for quite some time.

People keep talking about Captcha and yet a simple Google shows there are loads of bots that auto complete Captcha and probably much faster than I can lol.

Also even if the site implements one and then something in the payment stages falls over its no use (that was a lot of the issues with getting a 3070)

I can definitely see issues with Nvidia wanting in on a special communication mode with hardware they don't make :p

several times Nvidia has taken tech that technically existed but which no one else was using and brought it into the fold for what would benefit the entire industry.

If Nvidia did not do Gsync would we have Freesync or how long extra would we have waited - maybe we'd only get adaptive sync now with hdmi 2.1

If Nvidia did not do hardware accelerated ray tracing would we have any ray tracing games now, would consoles do ray tracing now? Probably not

Nvidia was also first to implement programmable shaders

Well since that's how Nvidia does it, should be fine for AMD to say SAM is proprietary and can only possibly work with AMD hardware or hardware paying AMD tax.

AMD didn't invent the principle of it (just like Nvidia in those examples) but they own the hardware involved (just like Nvidia in those examples) which means they can do exactly what Nvidia does when it stamps proprietary on something.

They're gonna sell out for sure, thats a given. The test here is how quickly can they restock to backfill the orders

Captcha isn't enough.

One of the card manufacturers implement the queue system of signing up via email then when your number comes up and a card is available you get a time sensitive link to buy and if you miss it, you miss it.

I think that's the way things should be done imo with items like this.
