Its crazy. I thought OcUK were in a strong position when I bought my last card with them two years ago. Like you said they stood on the soapbox in recent times how they are the largest, and flying over to China to make deals etc. #

Fast forward to now and humongous demand, yet the stock has been pathetic, hardly a large retailer and some of the direct competitors seem to be churning them out recently so Im not sure what all the chaos is down to it would be nice to get some transparency on it all.

I just chalk it down to 2020, nothing is normal and the crazy does happen. What a year. I think if you travelled back to beginning of 2019 and told me what 2020 was going to be like I would think you were nuts.

2020 will certainly be remembered and not very fondly. If anyone ever wants to replicate the feeling of 2020, stick your head in the toilet and flush and do this several times a day for a year.

I'm not surprised if some of the very limited stock goes missing along the way. Perhaps an underpaid worker who gets a rare chance to lighten an otherwise horrible existence. I mean the 3080/3090 sells for serious money 2nd hand.

But they shouldn't continue to take pre orders at massively inflated prices if they have no idea on stock availability imo.

No. People shouldn’t preorder for massively inflated prices with no idea of stock availability. But they do so it’s very hard to feel sorry for them.

I hate the business practices but you can’t really blame OcUK because people sometimes are just dumb.

Precisely. Just don't order from here. There are plenty of other (and better) places.

Yeah. My 750w Seasonic will be more than enough. I also have a wall meter so know exactly what my rig draws before the PSU. With a selectively tuned Vega56 (which on the box states I need a '750w or greater' PSU) my total rig doesnt draw more than 350w.

I noticed that for the AIB 6800xt cards they recommend 850w+ psu, same as the RTX3090. They must have high tdp, the only one I know the tdp for is the ASUS cards, the Strix and Strix LC 6800xt are 375w tdp

I believe they have to cover themselves against people that have the worst PSU in history in case it blows up.

6800 XT SE and 6900 XT - 850W
6800 XT - 750W or lower
6800 - 650W or lower
And that's on a rig with how many hdd attached and case fans?

I was told that my psu is overkill and plenty for a 6900XT to slap on my Threadripper based setup with almost 10 hdds attached and loads of case fans?

What am I missing?

Recommended PSU is irrelevant, the only thing that matters is the power consumption of the GPU, a 300 Watt GPU will not require anything more than a high quality 600 Watt PSU, if you buy a £40 no name none efficiency rated PSU it will need to be "850 Watts" but who in here is daft enough to do that?

The recommendations are over the top because they have to assume you're an idiot and are going to power your £1000+ PC with a junk PSU. Don't do that.

Still doesn't make what OcUk does is right.

If the people are dumb then OcUK shouldn't take advantage of it eh? They're taking advantage of some people's desperation.

Dumb and seemingly made of money. Still have no idea how a significant proportion of the OCUK population can afford to drop £1k on a video card.
