The time came

I don't think it's worth £3.5k because I've just spend some money on it, I think it's worth £3.5k because of it's condition, both aesthetically and mechanically.

Also, I'm well versed in the world of RX8s :)

You aint getting 3.5k for that car theres too many about, but you might get 3.

those that do know how expensive a job it is (£680 is what Fred@BTM charges, IIRC - I'm sure it's got to be close to four figures at Renault once you include the de-phaser.)

So, less than £200 for a genuine pulley, £50 for a cambelt kit and a bit of labour...

Give him a break i just dont know why he didnt buy the bloody RX8 thing in the first place he liked them

No, at trade that is £128.33+vat for the pulley, £107.99+vat for the Auxbelt kit, £8.06 for a crank bolt and £82+vat for a Gates cambelt kit from a motorfactor.

£391 for parts alone including VAT, and before you've bought oil and filter.

The job books at 8 hours (done in 5 with two of us), and requires well over £200 of specialist tools.

But no one cares about all that no one looks that deep into a 3k car, im on your side here, but you aint making 3.5k of that car unless you shave 60k off it.

I bought a Clio with what sounded like a pretty much terminal top end rattle/knock

I see. You told us..

The fault didn't become apparent until I was half way home.

So it failed after you got it? Therefore wasn't the reason for the price? Or..?

Amazing that you are now trying to tell us what a big expensive job the belts are, when at the beginning of this thread, you were trying to tell us what an inexpensive job the belts are

How the hell are you getting almost £110 plus vat for a fanbelt???

Because I know what it costs and you don't have a clue, evidently. List price is £119.99 at Renault.

It is not just a "fanbelt", it is the belt, tensioners and idler pulleys. You'd have to be a sub89er (HI THERE!) to only change the belt.

I didn't bother. The warranty company wanted the car stripped down with the pulley off ready for inspection at a VAT registered garage, with no guarantees of how long it'd take them to come out - it was far too much hassle.

I mentioned the issue to the supplying dealer, they offered me £100 as a gesture of goodwill.

Did the warranty company fall for it in the end?

I just sent you a e mail, you keep that number when you are ready to get shot let me know.

I think mine is worth 6k+, doesn't mean anyone will ever pay that.

The market is dictated by what buyers will pay, not what sellers think and hope they are worth.

Sure, but it isn't dictated by the members of Motors, either ;)

Like I said, I'm not fussed if it doesn't sell straight away, I'm in no rush and happy to keep it at a higher price for a while.
