You paid £2k from a car dealer, he was hardly going to flog it to you for less than it was worth was he!

He's done a fair bit of work since buying it though?

It trades at £2190? I bought it with a problem, don't forget.

At the end of the day, it is a Clio in very good condition that genuinely does not need a penny spending on it. Find me another one that is mechanically perfect, with everything else done so recently for less.

Sure, someone could go pick one up for £3k, but cambelt is in excess of £500 at an indy specialist, and I doubt there are many that will be as up together as this one.

Unfortunately, with 140k on the clock, most people wont even look twice.

Why do you state that this is only good for B road blasts, yet in your ad state you want something more sophisticated as you don't drive much?

Still, at least it wont take you long to choose a replacement... :D

Actually thing that's a brilliant advert. Loads of useful information, good decent pictures, mention the minor points. No idea on the price as I've no interest in the market for them but does look a very good car.

If every advert was like that it'd save hours in phoning up asking about FSH or when x and y was done etc...

Yes, many are blinded by mileage. It's an unfortunate fact, but I'm in no rush to sell it either.

The advert says I want something more "sophisticated and refined"....

I'm hardly going to say "I'm selling because it's not very good for anything other than ragging the **** out of it" in the advert of something I'm trying to sell, but they all centre around the same issue - road compliance and to a smaller degree, comfort.

I'm not about to rush out and buy an A8, I just want something that is a little more compliant - ie. can be driven moderately fast easily without getting thrown all over the show, and a little more subdued when pottering around.

Ah well thats ok, I've done £8k of work on mine since I got it, yours for £15k.

Looking it up in the May edition of Glass's it has a RETAIL value of about £3k - private sale? It's gotta be closer to £2.5k surely?

Why pay 500 quid over retail money for a car sold by a private seller who has only owned it a few weeks?

That depends Mike, the whole reason I bought my 172 was because it was good for ragging the hell out of it.

So why do you wan't something more sophisticated to 'potter around' in? Its hardly like the IoW is awash with long motorways to cruise on is it?

Infact, isn't it nearly all B roads?

You know what i think you should buy?

A boat, just perfect where you live :)

I probably would, I mean you could pay £3k from a dealer, and it need an £800+ cambelt, auxbelt etc., discs, decent tyres etc.

Or you could spend £3500 and have one that already has it all done.

I am with DM. Living on the isle wight the boat would absolutely take priority over a toy car.

Especially for the summer, thats got to be perfect living bang on the coast like that.

Or someone could buy carefully and get one from a dealer for the same sort of money that has already had the work done? A mate of mine was looking at 172/182s and cars that have had the belts done aren't exactly rare, I think in his case the work had been done more often than not.

Wasn't aware of prices but if they're going for £3k retail you're probably going to struggle to get 3.5k for a private sale on a high mileage car.

Best of luck anyway, but don't get greedy.

Way ahead of you, there will be a thread in the near future ;)

That depends, I was surprised at the sheer number of cars that didn't have the belt done, and you don't get something for nothing - good ones are still well over £4k.

I'm merely dipping my toes in at the moment to see what if any interest there is at this price. Like I said, I'd still be happy if I had to knock £500 off.

Retail price is given for a ready for retail sale, not one overdue a service.

True, I guess cars sell privately for well over dealer retail all the time in the curious world of MikeHiow.
