The time has come

In Japan, nearly all cars are sold through auction. The cars are given a thorough going over and presented with a grade. The bidder can put a fair amount of faith into the grading as its the way things are done over there and given you get about 20 seconds to bid on each car. Grade 5 is showroom, grade 1 is very poor. Grade 0 means its been in an accident. The Japanese are masters of bodge and their repaired cars will make you go pale.

I've seen their efforts first hand and its truly frightening (bent B pillar, crushed inner shell, washers used to make wings line up)

 I'll stear clear of Jap imports! Preferring German pig-ironmongery at the moment anyway.

(in which I'm having a go tomorrow).
Thanks.

Dare I say, pics with Hovis? :D

Why on earth have you made an offer on a car you've not even driven? I don't get it? How do you know you'll even like it? Beneath the surface, ie when you are not at 8000rpm on an empty B road, it's an old Honda Civic. You might not like that after the best part of 2 years driving around in nearly new stuff.

Whats the betting once you do get this car, if it happens, it'll suddenly be the best thing since sliced bread and absolutely the best possible car for the money even though it wasn't even in your list of arguably far better cars?

I suggest you get a clue what you are talking about before coming on here and preaching.

Because I do know what the DC2 is like, and have spent a long time talking to people about the differences etc.

For once, I see what you are saying, but this is why I've sorted out a go in an EK9 for tomorrow, before I commit to viewing this car.

As for driving around in a 10-11 year old Civic. It isn't like I've got to drive to work in it every day, it is there for when I fancy a blast, or need to go somewhere on my own. It isn't often when this kind of usage will be anything but '8000RPM on an empty B-road' which is why it (And the DC2) is so suited to my usage. Until I can afford a GT2 (one day :( ) whatever I buy will always be a compromise.

So have you bought a car you've not viewed or even ever driven, based on talking to people about the car?

If this is a good car for you and going to be what you want then that's great, I just think it's pretty silly to purchase a car on what people have said considering it sounds like you've never driven one?

Are you even reading the thread? :/

I haven't bought it until I travel up there and hand money over, I will be having a go in an EK9 before going up there, and test-driving the one in question before handing money over. I don't see why you see this as a problem?

You've made the guy an offer - are you a collosal time waster or something?

I'd be pretty annoyed if somebody made me an offer then changed their mind because they didnt like Civics.

You've agreed to buy the car providing it is as advertised, what if it's a perfect example but you actually just don't like the EK9 at all?

Seems a bit weird to put down an offer and be willing to drive hundreds of miles it sounds for a car you've not ever driven.

How are you so set on a car you've only seen pictures and reviews of?

Iv bought a few on the off chance unseen but i think its a good idea to decide you like them before bidding or putting in offers.

I wouldn't let what I said put you off imports but the chances of them having been maimed beforehand are higher. However like I said the repair jobs are usually so bad its quite obvious which ones to avoid. I've had two imported cars, one of which I imported myself. Both were fine cars.

Because it is very, very similar to another car I know, and wanted.

Also, I will have driven one before buying, that is all that matters.

Especially when he seemed in love with the RX8 after driving one but still didnt buy one?

Let's be honest here, whilst I like the RX8, it is significantly more expensive in running costs and total cost of ownership overall than the DC2/EK9. When the EK9 is going to be just as fun, I see no shame in opting for the cheaper option.

I don't get how you can go from having no idea and posting a list of 5-6 totally different cars to being totally convinced and certain in the space of 2 days without having had any life changing test drives in the meantime.

I mean... what?

You are always certain about everything you post.
