The µ43 thread - welcome to the really dark side

Guys this sounds stupid but here goes. Do I have to order from the Olympus store to take advantage of the £120 bonus?

I'm just deciding on what lenses I want for when I travel, I'm thinking

9-18
17mm 1.8
25mm 1.4

Gives me a nice and wide angle for landscapes, a good portrait lens and a fun walkabout prime!

Nope can order from any official retailer. Amazon has the 9-18 for 362 before cashback today! So 242 quid after cashback. Buybuybuy!

The 17 and 25 are fairly similar, no? Considered a longer portrait lens like the 45? It's inexpensive and brilliant.

I loved the images from my 20mm, but the AF was sluggish, manual focus even worse and it banded at high ISOs on my E-M5 so had to go. If they'd done a proper refresh that fixed the above instead of just a cosmetic one I'd have bought another one right away.

I really bloody wish they'd make a ~100mm macro. My old 150mm Sigma is the only lens I truly miss from my Nikon days. I keep almost buying the 60mm but fear it'd be too short for my uses.

I'm guessing they'll be the same as my E-M5? In which case about 15-16MB at 4:3 (4608x3456).

Edit - Olympus reckons 17mb but I'd guess that's the top end.

Depends a little on the scene complexity obviously, but shots of my desk are coming out at 15-16mb. Looking through my catalog, some are as small as 13mb, but most are around 15mb.

Anyone here use lens pouches? Don't really want to carry a camera bag as that defeats the point of traveling light, but would like to take my other (when I buy them) lenses with me so could just chuck them in a lens pouch and then into my rucksack?

Also is the Peak Design Leash/Cuff still recommended?

I just use the super cheap 'matin' branded lens pouches from eBay. Only cost a few quid delivered.

Very surprising that there's no filter connection, what are you supposed to do when taken landscapes photos with a 90 degree sun such as most of the day, ie a polarizer?

It's fairly common with fast ultra wide zooms. As Greebo says the issue is the inevitably bulbous front element. Often they can be bodged to take oversized filter holders but screw-ins are a no go.

Put in a Bespoke Offers pricebeat against Amazon via quidco. Some risk in whether or not the cashback goes through but should net you about a 20% saving if it works.

Or similar money via HDEW if you'd rather gamble on 3rd party warranty over cashback.

Yeah I'm wondering if I could get away with a Bespoke price beat, then 18% quidco plus £75 cashback :p

Most authorised retailers will advertise the cashback, you can always email them to check.
