The µ43 thread - welcome to the really dark side

Some one has 3d printed a holder to adapt to the lens so you can use your filters ,i have the 9-18 swap yah lol ,to be honest the olympus 7-14 would be a better option over the 9-18 it is ok at 9 but gets softens by 18. and f 4-5.6 is not always desirable and 7 over 9 is still quite a bit different on the wide.

I meant as a second lens as well as the 7-14 :p

The E-M1 got a pretty hefty firmware update last year that I believe added quite a lot of the features from the newer cameras. I'm not sure exactly what, but worth comparing the new feature list with the mk2s to see what you're missing. Sensor performance is very similar across the 3 so go on features/ergonomics vs price.

whats the m5 like (mark 1)?? got a possible good deal (second hand mint condition with battery grip and 14-42mm lens).. still worth playing around with?

I still really like mine. There are a few ergonomic 'quirks' and it's missing some of the newer intervalometer/image composite features but the IS, image quality and build quality are all very close to the newer offerings.

Loved my 20mm but sold it because of an issue with banding on the em5 at high isos. I'll definitely buy another when I eventually replace the body. The 45 is an outrageously nice lens for the money as well.

Did a little bit of IR with my E-M5. Worked quite well, most of the lenses I tried seemed to have a pretty strong central hotspot though which can be a bit fiddly to counter in post.

The 20mm Panny is tiny and has a kind of undefinable optical magic which I loved, but the AF is mediocre, the MF extremely slow and it produces horrible banding at high ISOs on some Olympus bodies (for example my E-M5, not sure which others). This might be fixed on newer bodies.

I've decided I'm in the market for an Olympus 17mm f1.8 also, I'd like it to be a bit wider though but can only buy what they make:)

There's always the Panny 14. Very sharp, tiny and super cheap but you do lose a stop.

The 20mm is optical magic but the manual focus is horrible and it bands at high iso on the em5. Dunno if that's still an issue with the mk2.

I think everyone with an interest in landscape should have the 9-18. It may not be the sharpest or fastest lens in the lineup but the combo of small size, wide angle and cheap filters make it the perfect hiking lens. If you can buy it during a cashback event it's also not too expensive.

Hmm, is there anything the GX80 does significantly better than my trusty E-M5 Mk1 to make it worth spending ~£100 switching? Sensors are near as damnit the same, not terribly fussed about 4K. Any killer features?

yes no shutter shock a magnetic shutter mechanism, c-af dfd ,dual is ,frame rates, head phone jack and mic import ,better interface ,probably better dynamic range ,focuses at -4ev ,probably lots more but nothing extreme in mp or iso advatage probably slightly better iso 1/2 stop to 1 stop .
ergonomics will be better though and viewfinder

Sadly I just spotted max bulb time of 120 seconds. Bit of a deal breaker for me, cancelled my order.
