Ive been at Lincoln uni for the past year, love it :)

My brother is at Lincoln too. I'd imagine it must be a lovely place to be a student. I don't appreciate it as I live fairly locally, but the setting on the waterfront with views up the hill to the cathederal etc are pretty good!

im going staffordshire university (stafford campus)
im studying computer games design

good luck to all of ya and congratulations to those who got into university

may aswell use this thread to just general chat about uni

1.any idea how much a year insurance to cover £4000 of stuff would be, as the student insurance site is down

2. seen any good student deals? apart from the main ucas ones, im dissapointed at them

3. what student cards should i sign up for?

You might want to check your university for insurance stuff. I'm going to pay a whole £8 to have my room insured at Sheffield :p

Get your parents to phone their home insurance providers. They might be able to provide an extension to cover your belongings whilst at uni and in transport between home and Uni. This is what I did and it was cheaper than taking out a totally separate policy.

The only thing they wouldn't cover was my bike, which I insured elsewhere for not much at all (can't remember the details now though, was a few years ago).

As for student cards etc, do you mean credit cards? If so I'd just go with what your bank offer. Use it frequently but carefully and pay it off in full each month to strat to build up a bit of a decent credit rating.

And as for student deals... with the exception of things like discounts on cinema tickets by showing your NUS card, I can't really think of much worthwhile. Sorry.

Often depends where you're going. Obviously you can get an NUS card (free), but I've never used one as the uni's own student card is accepted anywhere that gives student discount anyway. Also locally to canterbury there's a Cant-Pass (or something weird like that) which gets us extra discounts. Never really bothered to get one anyway... :s.

Head that way.. i will be in my 2nd year at Soton too.. Information Technology in Organisations... you can add that to your list if you like as my uber long course title.. and no.. it doesnt fit in the boxes on forms to fill in what course you are doing..

northumbria - computer forensics.... all things permitting

cant wait/scared to death.

ive faxed them my grades to see if they will let me in. they asked for a distinction distinction, i got a distinction merit.... surely they wont be harsh and close the door on me?

Actually not sure the NUS card is going to be free this year. NUS are bringing out NUS Extra which you have to pay for, which gets you all your various discounts etc. You will still be able to get a NUS Democracy card, but that's just so that you can vote in Union Elections and stuff like that.

Or at least that is what is happening at Reading this year.
