Anyone just watched this?

It's BBCs version of the x factor from the looks of it. Basically a song competition, but there are 4 coaches (Tom Jones, Will.I.Am, Jessie J, and the guy from The Script). From the program so far people come along and perform, but the coaches have their backs to them and can choose them based solely on their voice. If the performer gets more than one coach they can choose which to go with...

It seems better than the x factor at the moment. Although some of the coaches are annoying. One guy who used to be in Five wasn't picked. Was quite amusing...

I watched this and surprisingly rather enjoyed it. I for one despise the shower of **** which is X Factor.

The show has an air of legitimacy about it.

Will definitely be tuning in next week.

Seems to be Fame Academy made more current.

The fact nearly all the talent are able to sing, write and play an instrument is much better in my opinion. Not saying that people who just sing are rubbish but for me, I prefer that when watching and especially if later on in the series they are singing their own songs or co-written songs with their coach.

She would often dep on gigs with me in a regular function band I was in up till last year, and I would pick her up to drive to gigs together and then dropped her home after in highbury. I always knew she had potential to be a star, especially when she played me promo demos of hers in the car. She really does have an amazing voice. See what you think. She had short black hair the last time I saw her. Kinda cool with red hair I suppose. :p I've just texted her wishing her good luck, and told her she will win. :cool:

I take it the winner will be given a record deal at the end of it? I know in the US one they are, but in the original Dutch version I don't think the winner did. Just a shed load of publicity and lots of money.

The fact they're all actual artists makes it better than other 'talent' shows like X-factor I think.

They are given a contract with some part of Universal I believe.

Personally, I would prefer a show like this to be "label agnostic" for some reason.

Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist but what if they do not like one of the acts? How much input do they actually have? To be fair, Jessis J is the only artist currently signed to Universal I believe.

In the previous versions, who chooses the winner? The public or the coaches?

Thought it would probably be Universal since the US one is as well.

The final sing off as it were to choose a winner between the last 4 it's done completely by public vote.

Fair enough.

Always a tough one though allowing the public to vote as to be honest, most of them are plain stupid :( Hopefully, the brain dead ones will stay away from the show.

Without that though, there would be accusations of it being a "fix" so stuffed either way.

Saying that, I expect that all who reach the final will be of a high standard anyway.

/Goes off to view the Dutch/American shows.

Who was the best singer tonight then guys? I didn't see the others really, only heard a bit of one other contestant. Was Jill the best or was there someone even better?

Well since they won't be able to chop and change lads from group to group etc just to try and sell records and take money from little girls, hopefully they're won't be many brain dead people voting.
 
Just watched it and it's a million times better than the US version! I've never watched the original show 'The Voice of Holland' so I can't compare but yeah, a million times better than the American one :) Quite funny in parts.
 
Given what he and his awful shows have done to the music industry in the last few years, I have a hatred of Simon Cowell that borders on the pathological. I despise everything he stands for, but especially his condescending, sneering, arrogant demeanour. I'm really surprised David Walliams - undoubtedly a witty and intelligent man - has sold his soul to the devil in the manner that he has.

I must confess I never saw myself watching The Voice when the adverts started a few weeks ago - I just assumed it was a BBC rip of X-Factor. However, once I understood the premise of how the show works I warmed to the idea. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised - even the worst contestant last night was probably different class to the usual freak show you get with BGT.

For me, The Voice just doesn't have the same humiliation thing going on that a Cowell show does and as someone who doesn't get off on belittling other people, I found it a damn sight more pleasant to watch.

Imagine my disgust when I sat down to watch Jonathan Ross last night and saw the 'lovely' Simon - I suddenly lost all interest in watching Ross and went and played World of Warcraft instead ...

The only show I would ever want to see Cowell on is "Lets Torture Simon: 1000 different ways to torture Simon Cowell"
 
I like the fact that all the judges have written songs, completely the opposite of X-Factor judges.

These judges can see the musical potential in voices, rather than the marketing potential of the 'acts' in X-Factor.

From what I can tell, the people are invited to audition, meaning they have passed basic tests, so no one at all should be bad.
Its all a matter of if the judges can see a way to work with the artist.
The guy from five, sung well, but more as a longue singer, thus didn't progress.

I enjoyed the show.
The judges had a bit of banter, rather than silly induced and concocted venom like x-factor continually manages.
