The Voice

Dammit, J Marie went out, so that youtube leak was right.

totally missed point of the show

Rubbish. Case in point, and biased or not, J Marie is a superior singer to Sophie, but they put Sophie through because she's 10 years younger.

Interesting, I heard perfect pitching and effortlessness from Jill compared to Sophie, but anyway, people will just say I'm biased so it doesn't really matter anymore. :p

I hear the coach ask the quieter girl to stand up and be louder, she was.
Everyone innthe room watching with me didn't like the j marie girl at all, thought she overperformed, trying to drown out her opponent rather than actually sing.

Some fantastic singers have gone home and some **** singers have gone through. Will's pairing of Jazzy Jeff and Justin Timberlake was highly retarded, they were two of the strongest singers in the competition, as was little Bo Peep vs Toadfish.

On the night I would say that yes, J Marie was the better singer, but Sophie has more potential being 10 years younger and almost as good. Serious coaching is going to improve J Marie a little yet Sophie a lot. Pretty much the same reason the last guy got through too.

So much for it being about the voice. Back to the usual format.

I wouldn't say that. Some of the younger ones are just as good and therefore there is argument to say they have more potential.

Also, what about the older couple that got through? If your point was accurate they shouldn't have gone through as they don't look the part.

They're only putting older couples and alopecia girl through because it makes 'fairer' TV. A young, good looking, marketable artist will win.

Fair enough. But that also proves my point about putting those other fat, middle aged singers through. If 27 is too old to compared to a 17 year old, what chance do 30 to 40 year olds stand.

I don't think it has much at all to do with age but with experience. For an experienced and professional singer like J Marie there would be little that the coaching could do for her. Sophie on the other hand held her own and had little real experience, coaching could do wonders for her. The older singers that have gotten through for the most part are still relatively inexperienced professionally and so coaching will have some impact.

I feel the last performance is another example. Solid professional singer up against a relatively raw amateur. The amateur held his own (and to be fair was actually better in parts of the song) and has considerably more to gain from coaching.

And where exactly in J Marie's voice does it need coaching? She already sings better than most artists in the top 10 charts. It's all about age.

Considering my disdain for the top 10 that isn't exactly hard! :) But it does pretty much illustrate the point. With J Marie what we have seen is pretty much as good as she gets, whilst Sophie held her own and still has considerable potential. If it is "all about the age" then how come older singers have got through too? Not knowing either Sophie or J Marie I would say that the right one went through.

Interesting concept for the show but as usual its no longer about "the voice" anymore

They picked a winner or 2 and are now just surrounding it by the freak show to eliminate.

I would have put through Sophie as well and not J Marie. She was certainly nearly just as good and the fact that J Marie is a 'pro' that has had training then it's quite understandable that you'd put someone through that's pretty much as good that hasn't had training.

It's all about potential, and for a 17 year old to be singing on the same level as someone who has had 10 years on her and vocal training - surely it's a relatively straight forward decision.
