The WANT thread!

is this a dream car kind of thread or for cars that i could possibly own if not for what ever reason?

always wanted a black ferrari enzo. dunno why just loved them but don't have a few mill to spend on one.

i did have a securing deposit down on the new mustang but cancelled it due to to many unknowns at the time ie rough monthly cost etc. now i see what the costs are 90% of me says i could have easily afforded one.

Always wanted a Z4 35i too but out of my budget.

And later on I'd like something old, manual, NA and 2 seats. Not really looked into what yet.

I'm genuinely surprised you didn't buy a Z4 - you've been on about them for years and for not much more than you paid for that Volvo you could have got yourself a Z4 SDrive23i. Frankly it wouldn't be my choice but it's as quick as the Volvo and has at least the same spec and you did seem like you genuinely craved a Z4.

I thought about it, and I was so close and keep tossing back and forth. Almost bought one too before the exhaust thing happened, right around last October/November when the itch got really bad I was checking AT daily, even went to my local BMW dealer to try one out in person, brought my tripod and camera case to make sure it fits in the boot (it does) but with the January tax date looming I held off (accountant didn't send me my tax return until middle of January !) so I wasn't 100% sure of my liabilities.

Anyway, still plenty of chances of getting the Z4, they still make those and they don't make the C30 T5 anymore.

There is also the little OCD part of me that wanting a high spec Z4 as opposed to an entry level Z4, like you said, the SDrive23i wouldn't be your choice. So I would be looking at something at £15k -17k examples.

Well no it wouldn't be my choice but then I'd not have entertained the idea of a C30 with no cruise, climate etc etc either and you did so you are clearly happy with that level of car, therefore you'd probably have been quite happy with a 23i which although few of them have iDrive are still fitted with leather, climate, Xenons as standard and 200+bhp from a 6 cylinder engine. They are also usefully cheap - considerably less money than the 30i or 35i.

I'm guessing it more for cars that you know you can't really have but you "could" in theory buy if you were to go a little crazy and let your heart rule your head rather than the usual roll call of unobtainable supercars.

I'd love a really mint gen1/2 Celica but I just can't see where it would fit in with my life.

I'll be honest that the 23i never crossed my radar because I was so focused on the 30i and 35i. I am more than happy with the power and delivery of the C30 T5 so you are right that a 23i would satisfy me too. Will keep that in mind in a few year's time. :)

The 'lowest' model in the range always gets a kicking residually and often unfairly so. Once you get past the 'its a 23i' stigma and judge on its own merits it's a great car - 0-60 in 6.6 seconds is hardly shabby or slow :)

My list, which has a few strange choices:

BMW e28 M535 - look great and sound pretty good too.
BMW e30 M3 - looks great, and damn fast.
BMW e34 M5 - comfortable, well equipped, fast and go round the ring with ease.
Lotus Carlton - rare, fast and make a great sound.
Vauxhall Monaro VXR - the V8, not the best quality interior, but a great engine, and loves going sideways.
Vauxhall VX220 Turbo - incredibly basic, like a go-kart, great fun.

All seem to now be appreciating in value, and I'll be looking to invest in the next couple of years hopefully...

Someone strangely mentioned an 8series, I was looking at the 850csi earlier, still great looking cars.

Probably for me

MkIV Supra TT
BMW E63/4 M6 for that screaming V10(Have a massive soft spot for these cars) or a more realistic 650i with a manual box.

Nothing else springs to mind and the two i've listed are realistic want cars, But i'm happy with my 3.0i E85 until that time comes.

Don't currently have the $70k+ spare and I'd imagine the environment crying every time I drove it!

EDIT: Actually... If I could afford the new one, it'll use the 3.5 Ecoboost engine so would actually have a fairly high fuel economy, so the latter point need not apply...

One of these because they're MAD!

Gotta get yellow though....

997.2 gts for me but would mean having nothing to fall back on. Plus it would spend even more time on my drive than my current car looking pretty.

My mom used to drive me to school and back in one of these. Not a Mexico, just a standard 1.6 and I never appreciated the car at the time. When something like this pops up, I remember the good old days, and I'd love to own one of these!

I hate to out paradigm paradigm ;) but the standard mk1 1.6 Escort was the Mexico. The non Mexico or RS range were 1.1 and 1.3 crossflow engined cars. It was only when the mk2 came out that you got things like 1600 Sports and 1.6 Ghias.

Other than that, I totally would go for a mk1 Escort - an RS1600 BDA engined car though just for the noise!

I make do with an e36 M3 (non EVO paradigm, sorry m8) for RWD amusement now but I've never had more fun than I did in mk1 and mk2 escorts.
