The Way It Should Be!

Eventually someone will suggest multi-lingual staff which will turn out too expensive.

Self service machines will appear with different language options and eventually we'll be able to pay for everything with our oyster card right?

I got turned down for a job in Edinburgh as I couldn't speak Mandarin.

I think what this guy says is great but unfortunately not many people see it that way. It won't encourage people to learn English it will just get him sacked. :(

But if they make it so you have to speak english at the post office, there'd be no point printing all the benefit leaflets in different languages.

I like that man already

This tbh... he's right in all of his statements in my opinion

"I was born and raised in a different country, my language was different, my religion was different.

"But when I came to England I obeyed the British way of life, I got into the British way of life.

"That is what I ask everyone else to do - respect the country where you are working and living."

If i ran a Post Office i would also refuse to serve anyone with a scarf covering their face, as it is just downright disrespectful when you are trying to speak to someone.

Its a shame then how a lot of English people leave this country and completely fail to learn the languages of their new 'home' countries.

Thats a bit of a sweeper. It would be more accurate to say many holiday makers to not make an effort to learn simple phrases during their stay, which I consider rude. I couldn't speak for people who people who leave the country permanently.

But most of them are people that have probably retired, and keep them selves to them selves, not become part of society

"If somebody stands up and says 'sorry, I can't serve you if you can't speak English', then they'll think twice," he said.

"I am part of a service but how can I serve them if I don't understand what they are asking for?"

Fair play to this bloke, english isnt his first language but at least he knows the score!

Nice one. This man is a fine example of how immigrants should fit in. Learn your English, and tell every other non-English speaker to do one.

Well, I just mean the ones that emigrate. I doubt most of the people that leave for places like Dubai bother to learn Arabic which it is hypocritical.

Also it's equally too much of a sweeping generalisation to suggest that there's necessarily a problem with foreigners in this country learning the language. From the immigrants that I've met, pretty much all of them can speak English.

That's not an excuse. In fact that's even worse because it essentially means they've just gone over there and not integrated.

Haha, no.
