I see a lot of bag threads that come up here. How about we make this the official bag discussion thread? It's a pretty important subject; how we carry our kit around with us.

Let's get the ball rolling!

My equipment list has jumped over the last couple of months and I've out grown my Lowepro AW200 slingshot bag, it's physically impossible to get everything in there now.

I'm looking for a bag that will hold the following

5DMKIII (with a grip)
EF 24-105L + hood
EF 70-300L + hood
EF 100L Macro (soon to purchase)
Sigma 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM
580EXii Flash Gun
Spare batteries
Memory card
Lens cleaners

Tripod? - I'm interested in hearing how you carry your tripod around.

Any recommendations? I quite like the sling design as it means access to the camera is very easy and quick.

Rule 1 - get a bag that is slightly larger than you need.
Rule 2 - make sure it is rain proof or at least can stand a short period in the rain
Rule 3 - it gets to a point where if its too big, get a case instead and a bag for trips.

Tripod? I carry that in the car.

Lowepro do the 500 AW, but its pricey. Good space in there though and you can carry it on your back.

That looks nice and seems like it would accommodate my equipment, including my 70-300L with the hood attached. You're not kidding about it being pricey though, but it's a small price to pay for keeping the precious equipment protected.

Nice tips, thanks.

I've seen some sling bags that are made by Kata which have my interest. Again, they aren't cheap though.

I'm guessing that Sling bags probably don't work very well the larger they get, hence why there aren't many large ones. I think that Kata bag is the largest sling type that I've seen.

F-Stop Gear

I now have a Loka and a Satori EXP. If you carry your kit any distance in the bag, then these are way better than the options from Lowepro/Kata/Tamrac etc. Not cheap, but by far the best camera bags I have ever used. :)

Edit; Oh and if you want really quick access to your camera, then I use a Peak Design Capture Clip to attach the camera to the bag shoulder strap. ;)

I got that exact bag the other day free with my 6D!

I just picked up one of these with a medium ICU, seemingly the most perfect camera backpack out there:

Will try it out on some big ski torus this spring. Will see how it handles my camera gear, avalanche gear, climbing rope, crevasse rescue, sleeping bag and bivy tent.

Which one did you get and what TSA lock are you using?

Ps I've already out grown Rule no. 1. :/

I have the 1560 which I have 3 bodies in, plus the 16-35, 70-200, 100, 85 and 24-105, plus some accessories. 400 goes seperately, as it's huge.

I haven't got a lock yet, I don't take it out, I use it for storage in the house at the moment. When I go out I usually take one of my bags.

I am tempted to get another smaller peli so I can take it abroad / around

Same case here, and it's full.

I was thinking the Peli 1530 (1510 with dividers), which is airline carryon size.

i got a kata sling backpack, nicely made but ive not taken it out yet. kata look to have the best quick access system, imo.

quite a few bags have a tripod carrying system thats basicaly a lil pouch at the front bottom :D. put 2 legs in there, then strap the tripod up at the top

That's the one I was thinking of getting too. For my 1560, I need to use dividers. I have the foam which I cut, but already I want to change the layout :P May need to buy the dividers now

I got it with dividers and lid organiser but asked got the foam top too, I didn't want my lenses bounce and hit the hard top.

The whole thing is now full and actually a bit too heavy....I dread to think why anyone would want a bigger case. I think getting 2 smaller peli case like the 1530 is the way to go lol then you can move it and not break your back.

Yeah it is really heavy! But awesome in terms of build quality! I used to stagger my kit over few bags but much easier to store in there and put in the warddrobe in the spare room.

I was at Calumet in London recently, they have loads of Peli cases on display, some of the larger ones are crazy!

I just got my bag and it looks even better in person. Here are a few pics...

The green insert is removable, so it can be used as a school/work bag if required and there are customizable dividers to suit your needs. It is surprisingly very light, though the construction is really top notch.

There are different sizes in this range. They have a "Digital" which is their smallest, then a "Small", "Pro" (which I have) and a "Large". I really love the fact that it doesn't scream camera bag and I personally think it looks quite classy.
