• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

The what do you consider Your Minimum frame rate thread.

60fps. I dropped Metro 2033 down to medium settings to keep it above 60fps at all times, and pretty much always prefer to sacrifice image quality for framerate - especially as the times that you need a decent frame rate are when things kick off. A firefight at 30-40 fps looks no where near as good as the same fight at 60 fps, regardless of settings.

100+ preferably ^^

ATM I've accepted 50 FPS though, I don't want to give up EF in BC2 and I'm not prepared to lower anymore details to raise the FPS....it's a stalemate, roll on crossfire :)

Depends on the game but I trust my own judgement & adjust to find the sweet spot.

Completely game dependent, but typically for an FPS game I play semi-seriously online, 85+, unless it's CoD2 or CoD4, in which case a minimum (and maximum) of 125, same goes for quake 3.

For a single player game, 60+ (unless it's crysis).

For me, ideally 60 fps is best as I play v-synced (I cannot stand screen tearing) on a 1920x1200 LCD monitor but anything over 30 fps is fine. Anything under 30 fps is not.

i play vsynced so i'll never go above 60 anyway. However it depends on the game as to what frames i will expect. however i will generally accept 30-ish fps as long as there's no major dips or slow downs, if there are obviously i have to raise it up. Things like RTS's i'll take anything over 20 as long as it doesn't become a slide show.

~30fps is perfectly good for me, but i will tolerate less for some games - like RPG's for instance.

I can definately tell the difference between 30hz and 60hz, but i can't say that i am too concerned with framerate in general. I will typically just turn all options to highest in a new game, then start knocking things back one by one until i get a framerate i'm happy with. I never run FRAPS or any other kind of fps counter, i just go by how the game feels.

Don't really play many games anymore though, either i am turning into a cynical old git before my time, or 99% of games are just boring these days.

Ah well seeing as I play v-sync as I cannot stand screen tearing I’ll never see anything past 60fps. Ideally this is what I expect from all games I play, however in the real world you’ll always dip below this….

Anything about 35fps is more then acceptable, and very playable and I’ll drop AA or detail to keep games above this…. Many of my games at 1920 x 1080 at 2 xx run at 60fps and dip below when it gets busy and I’m perfectly fine with this…

Not Less than 30fps

Vsync is irelevant on a 120hz monitor as the tearing is so fast you have to really look for it to notice it, so that is off. Obviously having 120fps is ideal, looks great in TF2.

PC needs to be 40 or above for me, as long as it's reasonably consistant. a lot of console shooters look fine at about 30, again as long as it sticks at it.

You need a higher framerate with mouse especially, if you could use a mouse with a 360 it would feel awful compared to using the joypad.

How are you finding the move from the CRT ?
Colour reproduction and general use is excellent - but for hardcore gamers still on CRT I'd say damn the quality and go TN for the lower internal processing and <6ms refresh.

In hindsight I'd have probably sacrificed viewing angles and colour reproduction for this - I can't even use 60fps vsync to remove tearing, mouselook is like mud until 70+. It feels like one of those games where you can hop in a tank and the developers have purposely delayed the turret response to simulate it's weight - if that makes sense!

@Echo - Are you sure there isn't something wrong with your display, excessive input lag perhaps? I've played games at 60 fps with the mouse, e.g. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, and they feel silky-smooth and responsive on my setup which is a GeForce GTX 280 and 24" HP LP2475w monitor.

That said, most of my PC games these days tend to be played with the Xbox 360 controller as about 85% of its games are multiformat and available on the Xbox 360 and PS3. I should get Just Cause 2 today and I'll be playing that with a controller as the demo worked superbly with it where the mouse and keyboard sucked big time IMO.

AFAIK it's a trait on the 2408s - anywhere between 35-50ms processing + 6ms for the panel. I even notice mild lag on Windows' mouse pointer after returning from the office!

I was crushed the U2410 came out literally a month after purchase, supposedly has a gaming mode that bypasses this processing - there was no mention of it online when I was researching non-TN displays mid 2009 :(

50-60 for me too really, really depends on the game/system tbh as some games 30 is more than adequate others 50 is still sluggish

A more annoying trend that has happened lately is the sluggish mouse because games are optimized for consoles (deadspace, gears, gta etc etc..)
