Developer preview is 3.4, so seems very odd, as it has lots of added apps/software and windows features.

Still Untill an official link comes up, might as well download it.

nothing on the MS site, so maybe worth waiting. i know they were spot on for the dev preview though, i used them for that.

If im not mistaken the dev preview has built in image mounting. Perhaps ESD is a windows 8 specific image file. And thus must be installed from windows 8 developer preview...

Yes, for clean installations...

I was thinking maybe the ESD files are for upgrading existing Win8 Dev preview installs.

i downloaded the .esd and i can't open it with 7-zip. i can't find anything on google either. i really wouldn't bother wasting your time....

It says file size is 3.6GB yet downloads are no more than 2GB.

Maybe the uploads are incomplete?

Windows 8 Consumer Preview Build 8250 (8250.0.WINMAIN_WIN8BETA.120217-15) is available for download now. The Windows 8 CP 32-bit and 64-bit Electronic Software Distribution (ESD) versions has been leaked much before the official .ISO release. Though genuine if you are not a developer or a consumer with prior knowledge about ESD it is adviced not to download it right now as the official ISO release is imminent.

They've made over 100,000 changes since developer preview.

That's a fair bit, even if a lot of it is UI, controls.
