The Wire appreciation thread

Just watched all 5 seasons for the first time over the last couple of weeks :) good stuff. Things like this and Deadwood (which I only watched about 3 months ago) seemed to slip past me.

It happens. I missed most of the good ones from the 90's other than an episode here or there as i just didn't have the time until the past 5 or 6 years. I'm sure people will be missing the good ones from right now and will be posting in threads like this in 2020+.

E.g. True Detective. Incidentally, spotted 3 Wire actors that that, Lester Freamon, Brother Mouzone and Spiros Vondas. Probably are a few more.

I first watched this series back in 2009. I enjoyed it then but not near as much as the second viewing.

I've finished watching it again in glorious HD and it was just down right superb. The best TV i have ever watched. Every single episode was just excellent, no filler, no BS, just jam packed with engaging drama. So many things going on with the amount of characters on show, never a dull moment.

And the HD remaster is great, very nicely done.

I reckon this is the best TV series I'll ever see.

I do love The Wire, and now I've got the summer off from anything Uni related I'm going to enjoy a re-watch :).

It's up there with The West Wing as one of the greatest shows ever for me, even though I hate 'comparing' shows.

A lot of love for this and The Shield, which was fantastic too. I was heartbroken when Southland was cancelled :(, I really do enjoy a good 'cop show', True Detective and The Killing have been sublime television recently.

It's Mcnutty :p

I've been watching the bluray and the pq is fantastic compared to the dvd but it feels like it's missing the claustrophobic effect it had, or perhaps i'm just not up to the parts that imprinted that on my mind yet.

Only started watching this, finally, recently - downloaded the first few episodes then decided to buy the whole boxed set from Amazon. On Season 4 now and it is fantastic TV, don't know why I didn't watch it earlier.

There's an episode of the second season where McNulty goes undercover as a Brit. The accent is ... term ...yeah. You gotta watch it to believe it.

thought that was quite funny... a British guy playing an American character trying to do a 'British' accent....
