The Wire - Series 1

Just watched episodes 6 and 7 and it is just starting to build up nicely. It has some superb acting in it from people ive never heard of before. Classy stuff that is a welcome change from enjoyable 'escapist' stuff like 24.

It's HBO so it as alaways a top quality production, I can suggest:

Entourage
Deadwood
Rome
Six Feet Under
The Sopranos
Oz
Band of Brothers (miniseries)

The Shield is made by a smaller network and is only in 4:3 but is the best plot line I have ever watched, fantastic from start to finish :D

It's funny, because you'll watch it the first time around and think nothing happened in those first five episodes, and then you'll watch the whole series, and go back and watch those first five episodes again and realise that a hell of a lot happens and you just didn't pick up on it.

The Wire is as much about character development as plot development, something which is sorely missing in most modern tv dramas. It is one of my favourite shows, even the episodes where nothing happens plot-wise!

I have watched every episode of every series, and I still wasn't that impressed by it.

Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy it, but I didn't see the best television series ever made. :)

I've watched all of season one and thought it was allright, watched the first episode of series two and never got round to watching the second episode, I might do at some point but just not that bothered.

I watched the first 6 episodes and thought it was boring... I think I have been spoiled by The Shield! The SHield is the best gritty cop show I have ever seen !!

I was a bit gutted when they changed the theme for Series 2. The version used for 1 was much btter.

How can you say that?, series two is by the great Tom Waits who wrote the song:confused:

I've just been checking out the actor who plays 'McNulty'. To my surprise, he's a Yorkshireman born and bred. Dominic West is his name. I never thought he was anything but American after watching him. What a quality actor. I may even start a petition to get him as the next James Bond seeing as he's English. :)

Finished watching the 1st series yesterday. Its been a good, meaty drama. Great characters and great acting. If I had to sum it up in one word, 'engrossing'.

I've just noticed Dominic West has been on C4 earlier tonight in the Devils Whore. What a quality actor. Before I die, i'm going to make sure this guy is the next James Bond. He'd be quality. :)

I was surprised when i found out Adebisi from the show OZ who also plays Mr Echo in Lost is British, born in London .

Also didn't realise it was Method man who played Cheese. Then again I'd never seen him before just heard his music. Got to say hes a pretty good actor as rappers trying their hand at acting are usually pretty wooden (50 cent) but i had no idea.
