Will have to find something new to watch, or watch it all over again 
I hate when it's called the best show ever, it's not, it's not consistent enough to be, however it is well up there in the top 5.
I found S2 the weakest, I thought it went out strong with S5.
Also it showed how a long running show can have a good solid ending, i'm looking at you Sopranos.

I've just starting watching it from Season 2, I've only watched 2 episodes and I'm finding it hard to tell which are the goodies and which are the baddies.
Black guys are pretty much all the bad guys!

I watched the wire around 12 months ago. I really got hooked. I have since watched the entire thing again.
I was sad at the end, not sad because of how it ended, but because I wondered what the characters would be doing next. To be honest though, they ended on a high and did not drag it out like almost all other TV series are.
Everything I have watched since (even by HBO) has been nowhere near as good as the wire. I love it.
My only complaint is that I would like a Bluray release.

I said the same until I saw the wire. The characters had depth and were brilliant and so was the story. I think there are many great shows, but this is a cut above the rest.

Talking of the wire I saw this in town yesterday and thought it was bubbles!
Not gonna happen, it was mastered for 4:3 SD television.
I watched series 1 and to be honest I found it hard to follow because I just didn't find myself being drawn in to the characters much at all.
I might give it another go, especially as people seem to say it gets better - is series 1 generally renowned as being a bit pants compared to the rest?

While I think it is excellent TV I also thing it is very overrated. *Don's flame proof suit.

Always a danger when you hear so many good reviews of something.
My second favourite is the Sopranos. My brother loved that so I got him the boxed set of The Wire for his birthday, he never really took to it.
Why? They literally only have it filmed on 4:3 film. There is no 16:9 picture short of letterboxing it, which would look ridiculous.
Besides, it's not the sort of show that needs to be in super HD anyway.
