Which is best to play with a controller? Which has a better story?

Having never got past the first hour in either simply because of boring combat, I feel I'm missing something. It seemed the combat was very... Repetitive, swing your sword. Done.

Which one should I tackle? I own the second on PC, so would need to buy the first as I cba to setup my 360 haha, so need to get my moneys worth!

Loved witcher 2 finished it, need to do it again to get the other ending.
Witcher 1 got to act 2 about 3 times now, just didn't like it found it boring. Apparently it gets better after act2 but ill never know.

I think the Witcher 1 is one of the best RPG's i have ever played, the combat at first was really awkward, but by the end of the game i was loving it, i prefer it over the Witcher 2.

The Witcher 2 is just hack and slash easy mode with lol360noscopecontrollpad support. But all in all they are both excellent games.

I say try them both, and try to get past the first hour of the Witcher 1 before giving up for good. I dont think the Witcher 1 is needed to enjoy the Witcher 2 but it does add to it.

Witcher 1 > Witcher 2

From what I understand like mass effect you can carry on your saves from witcher 1 over to witcher 2, does it make much difference?

You start off with the armor and weapons you finished the game with i think, cant remember if they are statistically better than the default ones though, looks cool at least!

Witcher one is by far the better game. I am a huge fan of the series as well. I was lucky enough to somehow play 2 first, thought it was great. Then played the first one and was blown away. Like someone said it does have one boring chapter but then the game really comes to life.

Witcher 1 is a great game, but I can understand skipping straight to 2....it is a right pain to get in to, and has some really bad cutscenes and voice acting which can turn people off. 2 is a much more polished game and probably overall a better game(1 is my favourite though).

I found the original (Director's cut) more accessible than the sequel in terms of the combat, not so much the control system but more around how you prepare for combat. TW2 seemed incredibly hard to me, so I quit on the first proper level after the tutorial section. In the first game, it is a bit more traditional - have good gear, don't *** up the timing of your attacks, win fight (few random tough fights aside like the Beast). Whereas TW2 is like, get massacred by ordinary enemies unless you filled up on potions first.

The free dlc improves the combat. Definitely worth giving it another go. I wasn't a fan of the combat at first, but since playing the Enhanced Edition(?) I have completely changed my mind.

Thoroughly enjoyed TW2, great storyline and really good action. I've got TW1 on directory cut (and had it for quite a while), but never got around to installing/playing it.

So, started Witcher 2 last night. Only got as far as escaping the prison. (after playing all the interrogation scenarios and training). This time, I lowered the difficulty to easy to get me into the combat. Enjoying it a lot more. Still a bit lost with the story...

The intro is a bit silly because you can do the 4 flash back scenarios in any order but they actually make more sense if you select 1-4 in ascending order.

Also the whole point is you have lost your memory so things are a bit fuzzy :]
