The Witcher 3 Benchmarks

I don't believe that they nerfed anything but rather just neglected optimizations on older gen cards.

Why spend time and effort catering for an EOL product when you already have the market majority loyal to your brand?

Guys, it isn't about optimization, it's about a deliberate design choice in how to build the game. Just like tessellation was ramped in Crysis 2 but without actually doing anything visually just so that the newer Nvidia cards could show off how well they "performed" compared to the Radeon ones. Same thing is happening in every game that Nvidia puts its greedy little paws on, including this one unfortunately. It's not a conspiracy, it's just business. But while that meant until now that only AMD users were hurt by these moves it's now moving to a new stage where even Nvidia users are hurt by it so long as they don't automatically buy the newest cards. What's baffling is how people are so willing to defend this when it hurts themselves. I understand humans are only rational creatures on rare occasions but still, why champion the cause of Nvidia to your own detriment? And make no mistake, this won't stop at this level so long as people pretend that it doesn't affect them. Inevitably, they will keep trying for more, so while now you're making excuses for why the older cards are so behind the newer ones because "you understand they focus on Maxwell" what will happen when they will be so entrenched that they will be able to ramp up prices even more, for less, and not even have to deliver much better performance when they can use tricks such as ramping up tessellation for no reason (or whatever else is the case tomorrow)? Again, nothing conspiratorial about it. You have money and they want it, and like anyone, they want to make as much money as possible for as little effort as possible. It's just business, but every time you make excuses for their tactics you're essentially helping dig your own grave.

As for the Witcher 3, I respect(ed) the company for many of its values in regards to DLC, patching, etc. and I didn't even care about the so-called visual downgrade because the game looks gorgeous regardless (and I understand the difference between trailers and end products) but for having chosen to go this route with Nvidia to the detriment of everyone that isn't buying a 900 series card they will not see a penny from me. Not much, I know, but it's as much as any individual can do.

This is exactly it, AMD do it as well, but seeing as their EOL last generation cards are still actually being sold as rebranded this generation cards nobody notices.....:p:D:p

Looks like my GTX690 will struggle with this game due to Kepler performing badly and not very good optimisation. I think I may be doing a lot of tweaking tomorrow instead of playing the game!

Lol I'm not making excuses for anyone, nor championing Nvidia. I am big into my AMD and currently own three 290x's in my two rigs.

Big difference between championing Nvidia and going round paranoid with a tinfoil-hat condemning everyone who disagrees with your conspiracy. At the end of the day, this is how it is, I will be playing the game on release and have no problem turning down settings if need be. What baffles me is that people put so much weight and thought into arguing it is this over that, which is causing performance hits. Whether they didn't optimize or they purposely nerfed, the end result is you are powerless to do anything about it. If you think it makes any difference, then good for you.

The way future games are coming along, it seems that Nvidia Pascal would be the next logical upgrade path for maxing out these games, or AMD next gen architecture after 300 series.

W3 is likely always going to be a horribly optimised and inefficient game, and one which probably will never be upgraded to DX12 or Vulkan. I don't think anything's going to nuke it.

Re: Pascal. The low end cards will probably be out around the same time as the high end 400 series (that is Q2 '16), enthusiast later in the year, and the big die next-gen Titan branded SKU might not make it until '17. It will be a long wait.

So Lazy AMD is the reason why the Project Cars engine is built entirely around physx then? Which as we know runs on cpu if you have a AMD card which tanks the performance big-time. From day one Project Cars was designed around physx, AMD being lazy or whatever has nothing to do with the problems with Project Cars.

You are so wrong, even with Nvidia cards PhysX runs on the CPU in Project Cars....derp

looks like I'm getting this for the ps4 then as I am currently saving for a new setup and cant wait that long to play it ! Looks amazing I think even with ' downgrade '

This seems to fly in the face of the Nvidia feature put up a few days ago that said a 980 could play this at 1080p maxed with hairworks with minimums of 40fps in large action scenes...

Not the case i was using quadfire 5970s a year and a half after GCN was released and the performance was great, it was only because of the Vram on one of the cards was failing why i stopped using them.
