I bought the Witcher back in the xmas steam sales, and so far... I'm not sure if I'll want the second one? :p

So far I've gotten to chapter 1 (well, just started it really) and I'm finding the combat a little... clunky. I'll admit, I've started and stopped a few times due to being busy of late, but I'm not 'enjoying it'.

Did anyone else find this but they stuck with it and liked it? Or does the combat improve? I really do want to like it, as it's very much my thing in principal! :D:p

I totally agree.
I started it for the second time last week (Got to the same point every time. Just after the first castle fight)

Can't get in to it and I find it a little bland :/

Strange one for me aswell, i've played the first one and enjoyed it without playing it too much.

The trailers look good but I've allready got too many games with a Linear storyline.

Get past Chapter I and all improves by a mile! The first chapter is a bit dull but don't let it put you off. Combat gets better as you level up.

This. If you can get through Chap 1 the combat will become fairly routine, in that you'll be used to what you need to do.

The first part in the castle is basically a tutorial. It can be quite tedious but its jet holding your hand and introducing a couple of people. It improves a lot in the next chapter and improves 10 fold again after that. It wont be for everyone so there is always the possibility that the game isnt for you or your just not in the right mood to play it, it does need patience and time invested to get sucked into it.

Lol, so you guys got stuck in Chapter 1, no wonder none of you enjoys the game thus far.

It's funny though as the castle part lasts for like... 30 min or so? That's not even the village part and from there on the real game starts slowly and improves gradually once you get to the town.

It gets mighty better and from there on, it's arguably the best modern cRPG (since KOTOR).

I had almost given up at the village just seemed a bit blande. Will push on with when i get some more free time

Get past Chapter 1 and it improves massively. Once you reach the first real "decision" point with the witch at the end of the village segment, it starts to take a hold of you and doesn't let go.

the Witch at the end of the village?

Que?

I thought it really picks up after the swamp bit - that was a bit of ballache but its all go now.

The combat isnt very good at all, i dont understand how people preffer this over DA:O, ill tell you how far i got before getting bored, unsure which part come first as it was a few months ago now. i went into the sewers to kill a beastie, followed some guy around the city who was in the castle invasion at the beginning. i Felt i put enough time into the game without enjoying it.

Nobody has said that they got 'stuck'

They've just said that they found the start of the game tedious - which most people have agreed on. I certainly found the start really boring when I played it.

FAR before the swamp, I think. Can't remember her name, but she looks after Alvin and is accused by the villagers (led by the Reverend) of conjuring The Beast.

I liked it until I got to the swamp and kept getting killed by those killer plants. I thought for plants you're supposed to switch to an axe or something?

The Witcher is one of my favourite games ever, and I hated the first chapter. It's a slow starting game, and it feels clunky at first - but the perseverance is worth it. I'd agree that the game properly starts with the Abigail decision, after which it's a fantastic story with great atmosphere :)
