The Witcher - am I missing something?

I liked it until I got to the swamp and kept getting killed by those killer plants. I thought for plants you're supposed to switch to an axe or something?

Igni, torches, and fast fighting style, strong will have them constantly interrupting you.

Ace game, only gets going once you get in to the main city.

I enjoyed it in the village, but couldn't get past the boss called 'The Beast' so I just gave up on it. Keep meaning to have another go but have other games to play.

Probably wrong fighting style tbh. Once you get used to switching quickly it becomes easier to tackle new foes. Can't remember if you can get one back then, but use a whetstone on your sword and any swallow potion you can get your hands on?

I couldn't get in to it either. Just found it to be really dull, very poor systems and an awful interface.

Prologue and first chapter shouldnt take too long. Picks up immensely after that.

I found the combat superb tbh. Different and better animations depending on how you level your character - combine magic and swordplay in some moves as well.

I also like that darkness actually affects the game. A lot of rpgs darkness is "fixed" by merely uppping the game or brightness but in this game you need a torch or cat potion. Fighting in the dark is a lot more challenging haha.

Great game - hope they dont dumb it down for the sequel.

Nobody has said that they got 'stuck'

They've just said that they found the start of the game tedious - which most people have agreed on. I certainly found the start really boring when I played it.

Ha, shocking that a story starts off slowly, perhaps too slowly for some.

It evolves continuously throughout and is great but the FPS can make the combat feel clunky is it isn't the most efficient of games I've come across.

started this up again yesterday and forgot how boring the first chapter is.

Onto chapter 2 now though and its picking up nicely again so will hopfully blast through it now like i did my previous 2 playthrough's :)

I got just past the swamp bit and i just couldn't be bothered anymore. I feel like i must be missing something too because lots of people have sung it's praises but i didn't really like anything about it tbh.

There was a part just after you enter the city where i thought it was improving and i would stick with it, but it is very boring. I really couldn't care less about the story (whatever that was) and it just seemed really clunky to me, very unpolished in pretty much every area.
Oh, and the script is awful.

Some people do love it though:)

It's all about the story, if that isn't your thing, then the game isn't your thing.

That's the thing. Usually i only care about the story and this game should be exactly my thing, but i found the story terrible tbh. I can put up with the combat if i don't like it, but in this case the story isn't holding me either

It's one of my favourite games ever, but the first 2 chapters are incredibly boring. You have to persevere a little - once you get into the city it gets miles better.

Didn't enjoy it, thought the combat was rubbish. Got quite far, it didn't improve, so I chucked it.

Not sure what all the fuss is about...

I feel the same, it did get better for me. Probably the best third person rpg I have played, and there aren't many at all that I have found I like enough to bother with.

its a shame people didnt like the combat. For those that didnt what would they have preferred?

a) turnbased combat which would have slowed the entire game down and imo not suited

b) MMO/diablo style combat clicky spam

c) ?
